#About the Department of Facilities Management

Mount Royal University's Facilities Management department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, design, operation, maintenance, safety, and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites, and services within Mount Royal's campus community. Through efficient and environmentally sustainable operation, we offer Grounds, Custodial, Building Operations, Facilities Planning, and Engineering professional services to provide a physical environment that supports and enhances our academic space for students and staff. Facilities Management is also responsible for the official space inventory, which includes capacity, categories, types, and current assignment of spaces. As part of keeping an updated inventory, space audits are done annually.

#About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Project Delivery, the Facility Planner will work as a team member within the Planning & Project Delivery Department. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to excellent customer service. The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:

  • Provide in-house architectural AutoCAD design and support
  • Design and develop drawings and specifications for renovation/alteration projects
  • Preparation of furniture layouts and specifications for RFQ's
  • Develop and maintain furniture standards for all University facilities
  • Provide detailed cost estimates for University operating and capital budgets
  • Act as a project coordinator on installation of furniture and signage contracts
  • Assist with evaluation and award of project tenders
  • Maintain University drawing archives, maintenance manuals and design catalogues
  • Maintain current signage standards throughout campus

This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.

##Responsibilities

Space Planning & In-house AutoCAD Design

  • Adhere to design process including specifications, colour and material selection, and so on
  • Provide clients with coordinated cost estimates and budgets as well as a project schedule
  • Develop conceptual layout and design based on client program
  • Maintain as-built drawings, manuals and technical library ensuring technical information is kept up-to-date.
  • Undertake space planning exercises.
  • Design and develop preliminary detailed architectural drawings.
  • Research and design modifications that comply with all governing codes, regulations & proper engineering practices.
  • Suggest and design modifications that would provide greater safety and financially benefit MRU.
  • Confer with clients to determine factors affecting planning around the interior environment such as budget, architectural standards, practice, purpose, and function

Design & Development of Drawings and Specifications

  • Provide architectural and furniture layouts
  • Prepare specifications and tender packages for renovations, evaluate and recommend tender awards.
  • Determine any necessary consequential moves resulting from proposed renovations.
  • Reduce reliance on external architectural and design firms.

Project Budget Estimates

  • Evaluate requests & proposals for new or renovated space & facilities.
  • Prepare estimates for R & A requests and University capital budgets.
  • Evaluate bids and oversee R & A Projects to ensure contracts & schedules are adhered to.

Develop & Maintain University Construction & Furniture Specifications

  • Develop and prepare detailed furniture specifications and standards.
  • Research potential products for renovations.
  • Analyze departmental and individual equipment and space requests to determine if requests are valid and consistent with overall University plans and objectives.
  • As necessary attend weekly meetings, record minutes and distribute these to all parties involved.

Plan, Coordinate, and Oversee Deliveries

  • Coordinate deliveries for assigned projects as required.

##Qualifications

  • Three or Four Year Bachelor Degree or Equivalent

  • Frontline (Archibus IWMS), Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, and lnDesign

  • Five to eight years in a similar Facility Planning or Interior Design position.

  • Microsoft Office suite of products

  • Functional working knowledge of AutoCAD (v.2024)

  • Knowledge of construction principles and practices, furniture systems, and signage and way finding systems.

Salary:$75,147.80 - $95,113.20 per annum
