Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Engineer to join our Building Science and Sustainability team in Alberta/Prairies. The role reports to the Operations Manager – Building Science & Sustainability.

Role Overview

In this role, you will provide technical leadership in planning, executing, and guiding building science investigations, developing advanced remediation strategies, overseeing on‑site assessments, and delivering high‑quality reports. As a key contributor to our expanding Building Science service line, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Canada while shaping best practices and driving technical excellence. You will play a pivotal role in mentoring junior staff, supporting their development, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Your Impact as a Building Science Engineer

  • Lead Projects: Deliver building science projects from initiation to completion, ensuring work is on time, on budget, and exceeds client expectations. Oversee building envelope design, design reviews, commissioning, construction‑phase services, and field assessments.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare clear, professional technical reports, memorandums, and site visit summaries. Maintain action lists and track resolution of deficiencies.
  • Design & Problem‑Solving: Review design documents and develop practical, technically sound solutions for client issues. Contribute to building envelope assessments and remediation strategies.
  • Senior Review: Provide internal peer review for building performance projects to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and consistency across team outputs.
  • Client Engagement & Business Development: Build strong client relationships and tailor solutions to their goals. Support business development initiatives and represent Pinchin professionally.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead project teams, ensuring high‑quality execution and accountability. Coach and mentor technical staff across Alberta to support their growth and development.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with Building Science peers and other in‑house disciplines to deliver holistic, integrated solutions. Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices to support continual improvement.
What You’ll Bring to Pinchin

You offer deep technical insight, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to growing your career in a supportive, people‑first culture.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation — APEGA preferred.
  • 5+ years of building science experience as an engineer or project manager.
  • Proficiency with building science software/tools and a solid understanding of building envelope systems.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
  • Relevant certifications in building science or project management (an asset).
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Team leadership experience or training.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry developments.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to a personal vehicle (mileage compensated).
