About the role

Position Summary

The Cardiology Technologist Assistant (TA) is responsible for supporting our Cardiology department with various tasks and treatments while setting an example of high-level patient care and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency.

We’re also excited to share that our hospital is expanding! With the addition of a second Veterinary Cardiologist to our team, we are looking for another Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) to join us. This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing, collaborative team and to work alongside specialists while continuing to provide exceptional care to our patients and clients.

The Cardiology TA will report to the Lead Specialty Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) and collaborate closely with our two Cardiologists and the RVT team to provide exceptional patient care.

This position offers a compressed work week of four 10-hour shifts, scheduled Monday through Friday, with opportunities to pick up additional overtime shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Assist Specialty RVTs and Specialty Veterinarians with various tasks and treatments.
  • Greet patients and their owners as they arrive and show them to an examining room.
  • Provide patient restraint as required during procedures and examinations.
  • Clean and maintain treatment rooms and equipment in preparation for procedures.
  • Ensure internal and external hospital cleaning schedules are followed.
  • Perform inventory management of supplies and pharmaceuticals as required, including ordering, receiving, storage, and handling.
  • Feed, bathe, and care for patients who stay overnight in our facility.
  • Responsible for surgeryroom set-up, clean up and quick turnover between procedures.
  • Performs decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical supplies.
  • Reports problems or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist with maintaining practice software including client and patient record management.
  • Educate clients about insurance, basic nutrition, home care, and wellness plans as required.
  • Openly and proactively communicate updates to Cardiology, Specialty Medicine, and management team members. Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments.
  • Follow all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.
  • Adhere to the hospital’s health and safety policies.

Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with animals.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working as veterinary assistant preferred (preferably in a specialty department).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comfortable working with all animals and with communicating with our patients’ owners.

  • Exceptional customer service skills,

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and remain calm in stressful situations.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to carryout tasks independently.

  • Proven active listening and problem-solving skills.

  • Desire and initiative to continuously improve the practice and grow as a professional.
