Director, Legal Product and Strategic Growth
About the role
Our client, an established service provider in the legal arbitration space, is seeking a Director to support their AI powered program built to predict the outcome of Canadian court decisions. The Director, Legal Innovation and Product Strategy will be an important part of the product's direction and development as well as client management and development.
This is an exciting role for an entrepreneurial lawyer to get in on the ground floor of a new technology offering and grow their product and client development skills.
The ideal candidate will combine legal training and expertise with a genuine curiosity about emerging technology paired with ideas on how to develop the business. This is a non-practicing role for a lawyer looking to develop their skillset on the business side.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and a small, capable team. They will be expected to engage meaningfully with the technology not as a developer, but as someone who understands what AI can and cannot do, and who can help translate legal expertise into product value.
Your role will include
Leading the strategic direction of the technology platform, including making decisions on which practice areas to expand into and how Working closely with data scientists and external product developers to make recommendations and changes to the platform based on feedback from current and prospective clients Developing and managing relationships with law firms, in-house legal departments, HR departments, insurers, unions, and other organizations Overseeing strategic changes including coordinating with content contributors and technical staff Representing the company externally at industry events, in partnership conversations, and across the legal, HR, and business communities Reporting to senior leadership and contribute to business planning and growth targets Managing a dynamic team beyond the legal scope including data scientists, marketing interns, and the like
You are the ideal candidate if you have/ are
A JD or LLB A genuine interest in how AI and emerging technologies work Comfort working closely with technology teams Experience in or a strong appetite for business development Dynamic ability to manage competing priorities and to make decisions based on the most information available Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal or technical concepts to varied audiences An entrepreneurial mindset, the willingness to dive in head first to a new area beyond the scope of legal practice A science or engineering graduate degree is an asset Experience in legal technology or operations would be an asset Prior management experience and experience with technology projects would be an asset
This is an active opening for a current role.
The salary is expected to be $125,000. Total compensation can include incentives based on participation in the company's growth.
