Overall Accountability
The Assistive Technology & Adaptive Equipment and Instructional Media Centre (AT/AE/IMC) Cataloguer, in collaboration with the Consultant, Assistive Technology, the Assistive Technology Therapy Assistant, and the Instructional Media Centre Specialist, assists in the ongoing support of cataloging and organizing materials and resources in Insignia for the AT/AE and IMC teams. This includes cataloguing materials according to current professional standards, providing support to Learning Commons Librarians with cataloguing and other library tasks, and cataloguing and maintaining our collection of adaptive equipment and assistive technology devices.
Specific Accountabilities

Under the direction and guidance of the Consultant, Assistive Technology, and the IMC Specialist, prepares, organizes, and maintains AT and AE equipment and is responsible for copy and original cataloguing of library and AT/AE materials in various formats, including language materials and materials for specialized collections according to professional bibliographic standards.

Maintains AT/AE equipment inventory; catalogues and coordinates the delivery of adaptive equipment to and from schools.

Manages the return of unused AT/AE, plans the movement of AT/AE between schools and orders new AE as required.

Edit MARC bibliographic records within the district Library Management System according to AACR2 or RDA standards for descriptive cataloguing, Library of Congress subject headings and Dewey 23 classification.

Assist Learning Commons Librarians with cataloguing, deletions, record completions, and other record management tasks as determined by the Instructional Media Specialist.

Maintain an awareness of new cataloguing trends and developments to improve service and create efficiencies within the district.

Switches between AT/AE, and IMC demands throughout the school year between the two locations (St. Leo and Saint Brother Andre Centre) dependent on need and at the request of the Supervisor or designate.

May attend meetings of the AT/AE/IMC teams for setting goals and objectives, planning, priority setting, and problem solving.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:
-
Category 6 - High school diploma and general knowledge of library procedures supplemented by post-secondary library courses.
-
Category 11 - Graduate of a two (2) year Library Technician program from an accredited post-secondary institution or a related Degree is preferred.

Experience:
-
Category 6 - Two (2) years' learning commons experience, in a school setting preferred.
-
Category 11 - One (1) year learning commons experience, in a school setting preferred.
-
Knowledge and a demonstrated aptitude in the Insignia platform.
-
Knowledge and a demonstrated aptitude in technology devices (e.g., iPads and Chromebooks) and common software used in schools for students and staff (e.g., Google Suite, Office 365).

Familiarity and experience with automated library cataloguing and circulation systems.
-
Able to lift, pack and move moderately heavy equipment, boxes, and containers of an awkward size (up to 50 lbs.).

Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with a strong service orientation.

Valid Class 5 Drivers’ License.
