A Vocational Rehabilitation Councilor is required to work with the Employment Options Program and Mental Health and Addiction Treatment teams at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. As a member of the vocational program team, key areas of responsibility include direct client support in job development, placement and coaching, as well as program intake, assessment, employment counseling and ongoing case management support. This position works closely with the treatment teams, community agencies, social enterprise, and potential employers, to support the clients’ vocational, educational, productivity and recovery goals.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
-
A Masters degree in Health or Social Sciences, Education or related discipline preferred, or an undergraduate degree coupled with significant related experience
-
Specific work-related experience supporting individuals with barriers to employment, ideally those with a mental illness, in meeting their employment and productivity goals
-
Experience in the provision of services to clients with a serious mental illness
-
Working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) and demonstrated ability to incorporate PSR principles into practice
-
Sound knowledge of current vocational best practices for those with a serious mental illness
-
Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations related to the provision of vocational rehabilitation services and/or employment supports.

Knowledge of adult education principles, psychosocial rehabilitation principles and the recovery model of treatment in Northwestern Ontario supporting individuals with a mental illness
Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in the community with potential employers, mental health and employment agencies, educational institutions, volunteer organizations and business community

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
-
Ability to work independently and as part of an interprofessional team

Demonstrated regular attendance at work
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
Offers of employment made to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination as per the SJCG Immunization Policy IMS-04-005or proof of valid medical exemption, prior to the offered effective date.
