Support the Infrastructure That Powers Industry
Shermco Canada is seeking a skilled and dependable Transformer Technician to join our field services team in Calgary. This role offers the opportunity to work on critical power infrastructure while supporting transformer installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning projects across a range of industrial environments.
As an intermediate-level technical specialist, you will independently manage most assigned field activities while collaborating with senior technicians and project leadership. This position is ideal for a technician with strong hands-on experience in transformer systems who thrives in a field-based environment and is committed to delivering safe, high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Perform transformer service operations including inspections, assembly, vacuum oil filling, oil processing, testing, and commissioning.
- Independently manage assigned field tasks, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project scope and procedures.
- Install, maintain, and service transformer components and associated equipment in field environments.
- Troubleshoot transformer and related equipment issues, escalating complex or non-routine matters when required.
- Ensure compliance with company, client, and industry safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, test results, and project progress.
- Coordinate field activities including tools, equipment, and daily work planning to support project execution.
- Participate in quality inspections and project completion reviews to ensure work meets technical and safety standards.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe, clean, and operational condition.
- Provide guidance to junior technicians and collaborate with field teams to meet project schedules and customer expectations.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in transformer services or a related electrical or mechanical field. Technical diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or relevant trade certification (Journeyperson
- Electrician or Millwright considered an asset).
- Hands-on experience with transformer oil processing, electrical testing, and high-voltage equipment.
- Solid understanding of transformer construction, operation, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work scopes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel extensively (up to 85%) and work flexible hours.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and professional conduct;
- Eligibility to travel/work in the United States is considered an asset.
