Research Associates:
Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Master’s degree. Individuals with training beyond a Master’s degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a research associate to participate in paleo-anthropological and paleo-archaeological research, as well as in the writing of academic publications for the MIRA/HOPE Anthropology Laboratory.
The selected candidate will be responsible for, among other tasks, assisting in the supervision of students and coordinating the logistical and administrative aspects of the research. The candidate will also be expected to conduct advanced research and literature searches, manage data, and collaborate in the dissemination of results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on publications.
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Write and edit scientific reports.
- Analyze and create digital morphological data, including CT scans, 3D models.
- Design and implement experiments, data collection protocols, and standards.
- Determine the appropriate methodology to carry out identified research goals.
- Conduct high-level and complex academic research.
- Interpret research findings and perform editorial tasks.
- Present project status and findings to stakeholders.
- Support project procurement and staff supervision.
- Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
- Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.
- Collaborate with the Research Associate/Laboratory Manager to provide operational supervision to highly qualified personnel (HQP) and undergraduate students involved in MIRA and the related projects.
- Collaborate with international partners on fieldwork, sample gathering and processing and keep track of the workflow
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required; PhD in Anthropology preferred.
- Experience conducting independent scholarly literature search, review and copy editing.
- Experience with the MIRA and the affiliated projects.
- Experience with human skeletal remains in archaeological contexts.
- Experience reading and analyzing micro-CT scans of human skeletal remains.
- Proficient in below software:
- Amira 3D
- Blender 3D
- ImageJ/FIJI
- 3D Slicer
- PAST (Paleoanthropological Statistics)
- Microsoft office 365
- Agisoft Metashape
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
