Position Title: Building Operations Staff

Location: Tong Louie Family YMCA (14988 57 Ave, Surrey BC)

Terms: Permanent Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekends

Salary: $48,800-$49,995 per year plus full benefits package

Start Date: As soon as possible

Reports To: Manager, Building Operations

Nature & Scope

The Building Operations Staff member is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all facilities, equipment, and building systems through routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections. This role works closely with contractors, suppliers, and internal staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness, functionality, and safety on a daily basis. By following established maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements, the position supports the longevity of assets and ensures compliance with health, safety, and building regulations. This is a hands-on position.

Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will**:**

  • Perform regular inspections of building systems and complete scheduled preventive maintenance for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, and related infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests to minimize operational disruptions and ensure occupant comfort.
  • Troubleshoot and carry out repairs efficiently, escalating issues when specialized support or contractors are required.
  • Maintain all maintenance tools and equipment in safe, working condition, ensuring proper use and storage at all times.
  • Follow all health, safety, and building code requirements, reporting hazards or violations and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Complete general facility upkeep tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, changing light fixtures, and replacing filters.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and schedules.
  • Support emergency and after-hours maintenance needs, including on-call response when required.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of first aid and emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of building facility safety in accordance with all safety regulations.

Qualifications-you bring:

  • Pool Operators certification and experience
  • Trade certification or 3+ years of building maintenance experience
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and provide 3 professional references
  • WHMIS Training
  • Mechanical experience in Facility Management Applications
  • Basic HV/AC knowledge
  • Basic plumbing knowledge
  • Mechanical inclination
