We require a diverse range of skills to support our work in the markets that drive our business and welcome candidates from all backgrounds and life stages who are passionate about making a difference.   Position Overview: As our Junior Quality Engineer, 1-year contract, you will support BWXT Canada’s Quality organization by coordinating and improving the nonconformance process through disciplined review, standardized analytics, visual management, and structured problem solving. You will help ensure nonconformances are consistently assessed, prioritized, analyzed, and driven to timely closure by working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. In this role, you will strengthen prevention of recurrence and contribute to overall operational quality performance while maintaining strong communication across Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Inspection teams, with occasional interaction with suppliers or customers as needed.

Your Day to Day as our Junior Quality Engineer, 1-yr contract

Coordinate and Standardize the Nonconformance Process

Review nonconformances for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification

Ensure compliance with quality procedures and documentation standards Support workflow from initiation through closure, including corrective actions Monitor aging items and escalate overdue actions as needed Promote consistent nonconformance management across projects and product lines

Develop Standardized Nonconformance Analytics

Analyze large data sets to identify trends, root causes, and recurring issues

Develop and maintain standardized analytical templates Classify defects by type, cause, process step, and impact Identify key drivers of rework, scrap, and delays Translate data into actionable insights and support consistent reporting

Build and Maintain Visual Dashboards and Pareto Reporting

Create dashboards highlighting defect trends, aging, and closure performance

Identify priority issues requiring immediate attention Prepare regular reports for Quality, Operations, and leadership Standardize visual reporting across projects Ensure accuracy and usability of reported data

Support Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Closure

Facilitate root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone

Ensure thorough analysis of significant or recurring issues Coordinate and track corrective and preventive actions Verify effectiveness and completion of actions Escalate barriers or ineffective resolutions

Link Nonconformance Learning to Risk Reduction and Continuous Improvement

Integrate nonconformance trends into risk assessments (e.g., PFMEA)

Identify opportunities to strengthen process controls and standard work Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address recurring defects Support reduction of rework and process variability Contribute to continuous improvement and defect prevention initiatives

 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, Materials Engineering, or related field preferred 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or operations environments Familiarity with nonconformance reporting, corrective action systems, quality records, or root cause analysis preferred Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (nuclear, aerospace, heavy manufacturing, or industrial fabrication) is an asset Strong analytical skills with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or similar dashboard tools is an asset Working knowledge of quality tools such as Pareto analysis, Fishbone, 5 Whys, and basic FMEA preferred Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and support disciplined, fact-based issue resolution WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU: Ensuring the well-being of our employees is our priority and we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits for our employees and their families.

However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
