About the role

A leader in the warehousing & distribution industry as a Service Manager being responsible for the overall management of maintenance and repair operations across all our garages. This role ensures fleet availability, equipment reliability, safety compliance, and efficient workflow coordination. The Service Manager oversees mechanics and support staff, manages maintenance schedules, handles vendor relationships, and ensures the garages operate at optimal performance to support daily transportation operations.
Duties & Responsibilities**:**
Garage & Maintenance Operations
- Oversee day-to-day maintenance and repair activities for all terminals’ garages.
- Control company assets and create an asset list by location.
- Prioritize and assign work orders to mechanics based on operational urgency and fleet requirements.
- Assure Road call suppliers are set up by region during regular hours and after hours.
- Align repair times of industry standards to our team.
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are executed consistently across all locations.
- Monitor the condition of tractors, trailers, yard equipment, and facility tools.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and service history.
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, effectively, and within acceptable downtime limits.
Team Leadership
- Supervise mechanics, apprentices, and support staff across garages.
- Coordinate schedules, ensure adequate coverage for both terminals, and manage vacation planning.
- Train, coach, and evaluate team members to ensure high-quality workmanship and safety practices.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Fleet & Operational Support
- Work closely with Operations, Dispatch, and Safety teams to support fleet readiness and minimize service disruptions.
- Provide timely updates on equipment status, estimated downtime, and repair priorities.
- Ensure availability of road-call support when needed.
- Participate in planning for seasonal peaks and special operational requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all provincial transport regulations, mechanical standards, and internal policies.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure proper documentation (e.g., CVOR, inspection logs, preventive maintenance records).
- Implement corrective actions for safety hazards or compliance issues.
- Ensure all mechanics follow industry best practices and health & safety protocols.
Inventory, Vendors & Budget
- Manage parts inventory, purchasing, and supplier relationships across garages.
- Approve parts orders, repair invoices, and warranty claims.
- Honor existing relationships but verify against the market.
- Track maintenance costs and ensure the department stays within budget.
- Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate service agreements when required.
Process Improvement

Standardize procedures between all terminals to ensure consistency in workmanship and service levels.

Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, control costs, and increase efficiency.

Recommend upgrades to tools, equipment, and software systems to support garage productivity.

Ensure the Terminal Managers and owner operators are informed of any and all unusual circumstances that could negatively impact the operation of the fleet.
Requirements & Qualifications**:**
- 5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, heavy vehicle repair, or transport industry garage operations.
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Licensed mechanic (e.g., 310T) is an asset but not required.
- Experience managing multiple locations with Company owned fleet is a strong advantage.
- Must be comfortable performing repairs when required and checking the mechanics work for quality assurance.
- Extensive Health and Safety guidelines and regulations an asset.
