The opportunity:

We're Hiring! The Department of Family Medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine is looking for a Communications Administrator to join our dynamic team.

As one of the most complex and far-reaching departments in the college, we support education, research, clinical service, and faculty development across numerous sites throughout Manitoba. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional passionate about health communication, digital media, and storytelling in an academic healthcare setting.

Reporting to the Manager of Finance and Administrative Service, and supported by our Communications Coordinator, you’ll help shape both internal and external communication strategies that enhance engagement and visibility. From creating digital content and managing social media to supporting events and developing promotional materials, this role offers variety, creativity, and impact.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a formal training program is required.
  • A University degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Four (4) years of directly related communications experience required.
  • Experience in Communications required.
  • Experience in publishing, web content development, copywriting and editing is preferred.
  • Experience in editing or journalism preferred.
  • Experience in strategic communications planning preferred.
  • Experience in Graphic Design preferred.
  • Experience in a post-secondary environment an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint required. -Advanced writing and presentation skills required.
  • Must have problem solving, conflict resolution skills and apply a solution focused framework is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and written, and demonstrated public presentation skills required.
  • Must have excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively is required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deal positively with changing priorities and stressful situations required.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with technology to enhance efficiencies and prepare professional marketing materials is required.
  • Knowledge of, and proficiency in, using social media platforms for marketing and recruitment purposes required.
  • Must have highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with all levels of staff, students, alumni and the public in a professional manner is required.
  • Must be dependable, self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work is required.
  • Must have strong networking skills with the ability to establish good working relationships with staff, students, and members of the business community and professional associations both locally and nationally is required.
  • Proven ability to independently prioritize work and meet deadlines; organizational and time management skills are required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Basic understanding of photography and the operation of DSLR cameras is very desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge of U of M regulations, programs and procedures with a good understanding of the U of M's marketing and communications strategies an asset.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with graphics/publishing software (mailchimp) including Adobe Suite and website content management systems preferred.
  • Hours of work may vary depending on scheduled events (evenings/weekends).
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license and use of a vehicle is required, as travel may be required to events off campus.
