Senior Structural Analyst – Hydropower & Water Infrastructure

Our Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) office in Vancouver, BC is looking for a Senior Structural Analyst with experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams on water resource infrastructure and hydroelectric market sector projects. This position is for working as part of the Power & Transportation Group. Types of projects may involve rehabilitation of existing dams and hydroelectric facilities, design of new hydroelectric facilities, and civil-structural design of water resource infrastructure.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

Perform static, dynamic and thermoelastic analyses using standard structural analysis techniques, through LS-Dyna and other equivalent commercially available multi-physics finite element analysis programs (e.g. Ansys, Abaqus, etc)
-
Lead a team of analysts in the development of fine element models, performing model simulations, validating and interpreting analysis results, and producing comprehensive analysis reports
-
Perform seismic analysis including response spectrum analysis, linear and nonlinear static analysis, and elastic and inelastic time history analysis
-
Preform and optimize mesh generation using HyperMesh or equivalent software packages
-
Optimizes structural designs and validate structural responses against performance requirements
-
Collaborate with design engineers to verify the structural integrity, validate structural responses against performance objectives, and optimize structural design .

Establish Working Design Basis documents by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and analysis tools.

Work with diverse teams of multidiscipline engineers, designers and drafters from preliminary investigations and conceptual design through design development, and construction
-
Act as a mentor to junior / intermediate staff

Write, compile, and review technical reports
-
Participate in proposal preparation and business development
-
Visit project sites, as required to gather information to contribute towards engineering analysis and design activities

Travel within Canada and internationally
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
-
Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience
-
Professional designation within B.C. or eligibility to apply within the year
-
Technical aptitude, knowledge and experience in the field and on design teams
-
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
-
Effective verbal and written English communication skills, with demonstrated report writing skills
-
Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards
-
Strong working knowledge of earthquake engineering and seismic analysis
-
Proficient analytical skills with various computational tools – LS Dyna, Ansys, Abaqus, SAP 2000, MIDAS Civil and Midas FEA, etc
-
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, and Mathcad, Proficiency with Microsoft WORD and Excel
-
Initiative, innovation and commitment to technical excellence

Valid driver’s license
-
Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Working knowledge in the following areas are considered an asset:
-
- concrete dam design
- spillway and intake design
- penstock and/or lined tunnel design
- seismic design of structures including performance based seismic design
- Canadian Dam Association guidelines and regulations
- dam safety reviews and assessment of compliance with typical practice and regulatory requirements
The salary for this position is $120,000 to $190,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level. In addition to salary total rewards includes:
