About the role

Cybertech Automation designs and implements Industrial Control Systems and Industrial Software for clients spanning multiple industries. By providing an Automation focused workforce (EI&C) and project execution services, Cybertech helps clients implement new control solutions, or simply maintain and upgrade legacy systems.

Milestone projects include full SCADA replacements, nationwide HMI and PLC upgrade programs, migration of critical DCS systems, SIS Upgrades and data integration including advanced analytics.

Cybertech is currently looking for a motivated Junior Electrical Designer to join our dynamic team in Edmonton, AB.

As a Junior Electrical Designer, you will assist in the design and development of electrical systems for various projects. You will collaborate with senior electrical designers and other team members to ensure the successful execution of design plans while adhering to industry standards and client specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technologist Diploma or relatable field
  • Instrumentation Engineering considered an asset
  • Experience Level: New grad up to 5-years of experience in a related field.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Microstation, EPLAN) is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and design principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in the following areas is also considered an asset:

  • Control panel, MCC, VFD, motor design and layouts
  • PLC/DCS cabinet design
  • Electrical equipment sizing, specification and selection
  • Single line diagrams, schematics, and termination details
  • Instrumentation loop wiring and design
  • Cable routing, tray layout, heat tracing and lighting
  • Power and grounding system studies and conceptual design
  • Testing & On-site Commissioning
  • Experience with Canadian Electrical code part 1
  • AutoCAD/AutoCAD electrical experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, instrumentation, control panels, and grounding for a range of projects in Oil and Gas, Food and Beverage, Waste Water and manufacturing.
  • Support with developing high-quality CAD drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams that adhere to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct design reviews, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain high-quality standards in all deliverables.
  • Interface with clients to gather requirements and provide technical support.
  • Develop, maintain and manage relationships with clients, engineers, contractors, etc.
  • Collaborate with project teams to gather requirements and understand project goals.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle
  • Cleared and current Criminal Background Check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Ability to use PPE such as hard hat, half mask respirator, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Hours of work are Monday to Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM, with a half-hour unpaid lunch break per shift
  • Overtime and/or working weekends may be required
  • 30% travel will be required (In town and out of town)
