UTILITY WORKER

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Utility Worker is responsible for handling a diverse range of tasks essential to plant operations. This includes distributing dry goods, maintaining plant and yard housekeeping, and performing various finished product / materials movement duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following list of duties and responsibilities of the Utility Worker is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the job described. Rather they are intended only to describe the general nature of the job. Other reasonable duties may be assigned as required.

  • Responsible for the safe operation of forklifts and hand trucks, reporting any malfunctions immediately to a supervisor.
  • Distribute dry goods for the production lines as requested and return any surplus to the dry goods warehouse.
  • Operate in the ERP system (DEACOM).: using a handheld scanner to correctly move materials to and from Dry Goods to their appropriate areas. Release the finished product in the Deacom system to the next stage.
  • Pack, palletize and label the finished product, and place goods in the designated freezer location.
  • Restack pallets having broken breading and batter bags.
  • Remove broken and unnecessary pallets to storage.
  • Empty inedible and garbage tanks when needed.
  • Dump ice tanks as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining the tidiness of the production area, equipment, floors and other areas of plant during the shift.
  • Assist in maintaining the organizing of outdoor areas, such as lugs, broken pallets, toes or totes or other materials.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or Grade 12 equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience of manufacturing or food/meat production environment is preferred.
  • Must be able to handle heavy lifting of up to 30 kg boxes and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to maintain a hand truck and forklift license.
  • Proven ability to understand and follow safety and work instructions in English.
  • Good communication skills and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with little supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work in a fast-paced, refrigerated setting, involving proximity to machinery and food ingredients.
  • Work in cold, wet and slippery plant conditions for extended periods of time, with exposure to outdoor weather.
  • Flexible work schedule including mornings, afternoons and weekends.
  • Require use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay Rate: $20.60 to $21.60 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Morning/Afternoon shift
  • Weekends as needed
