To support Council directions and advance The City of Calgary's strategic interests, Intergovernmental Relations is seeking a motivated individual to join the team in a public relations capacity. The Public Relations Liaison role is well-suited to someone who excels at building relationships, communicates effectively across digital platforms, and can connect information to support City of Calgary advocacy efforts. The Public Relations Liaison thrives in a fast-paced, politically dynamic and highly collaborative environment. As Public Relations Liaison, your primary duties include:

  • Research, develop and maintain an annual calendar of events that may be strategic for City senior leadership to attend to build relationships.
  • Work across the organization, and with the Government Relations team, to coordinate logistics for senior leadership to attend sector events, including supporting briefing document preparation and follow-up activities as needed.
  • Research, create and maintain a contact list of associations and organizations that may be interested in partnering with The City on advocacy and joint initiatives.
  • Act as a resource to Intergovernmental Consultants, helping to connect aligned associations and organizations to City advocacy portfolios.
  • Build relationships with affiliated organizations. Anticipate, monitor, and identify new strategies and plans put out by affiliated associations and organizations to identify aligned and divergent objectives.
  • Support strategic communications material development as needed.
  • Provide ongoing data on events and activities.

Qualifications

  • A completed 1-year Certificate in a relevant field such as public relations, public administration, business administration, communications and marketing, and at least 3 years of related experience.
  • Organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong storytelling and interpersonal skills, ability to rapidly make new connections.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Business Unit: Intergovernmental Relations

Union: CUPE Local 38

Position Type: 1 Permanent

Compensation: Pay Grade 6 $34.37 - 45.97 per hour

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Location: 800 Macleod Trail S.E.
