About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for the leadership of education for designated staff to support clinical competencies, organizational standards / practices / guidelines and patient and family centered care. The CNE utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in providing education for designated staff. The CNE leads, develops, and supports educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and continuing education, changes in policies, procedures and protocols to promote clinical competence for staff. The CNE utilizes adult learning principles when developing education and responding to educational needs of staff. The CNE participates in quality improvement strategies and activities. The CNE acts as a role model and resource to all staff for professional development and clinical competency. The CNE collaborates with the interprofessional team at the unit, department, site, zone and provincial level as necessary. The CNE uses legal and ethical principles to influence, design and implement policies and practice documents.

The goal of the Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program is to provide patient-centered, evidence-based and holistic care to our patients who are socially vulnerable and/or dealing with problematic substance use. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to support at risk patients who want to improve their social determinants of health and/or reduce their substance use.

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
  • Connect Care.
  • Bachelor’ Degree in Nursing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with patients with Substance Use Disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, coordination and implementation of educational initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience developing relationships with stakeholders.
  • Minimum 2 years working in acute care.
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership or educator position
  • Excellent communication and relational abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Connect Care experience an asset.
