The Nourish and Develop Foundation (TNDF) is a non-profit located in Cannington, Ontario on a mission to connect people to nourishing food and supportive resources, empowering the community to come together to develop lasting change. Rooted in curiosity, connection, advocacy, responsiveness, and equity, we are a multi-service agency with two pivotal branches—Food Services and Social Services.

Position Summary

The Admin & Communications Assistant will work closely with, and under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator while supporting various team members, including the General Manager and Executive Assistant. In this multifaceted role, they will provide critical administrative and communications support while fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for all visitors and service users.

Eligibility

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection status in Canada
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Position Term

June 29, 2026 – August 28, 2026

Hours and Location

This is a part time, contract position (30 hours per week for 9 weeks).

Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, however evening and/or weekend shifts may be required for this role, with advance notice given.

This position is based in Cannington, Ontario. There is no remote work or hybrid work option available for this position.

Compensation

$20/hour

Tasks and Duties

Admin Duties

  • Serve as the first point of contact at reception: greet visitors, handle inquiries, answer and direct phone calls, and ensure a positive visitor experience.
  • Receive donations, complete donation forms, and record donation details in SharePoint and our donation tracking spreadsheet.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Ensure reception area remains tidy and well-stocked.

Communications Duties

  • Update visual displays in the community and TNDF buildings to reflect current programs and events (e.g., community boards, tabletop signs in the dining room, etc.).
  • Ensure all resource binders, event materials, and promotional items are up to date, organized, and well-stocked.
  • Create diverse social media content—including static posts and videos—to promote programs and services, share updates or cancellations, highlight advocacy or education, and express appreciation; ensure all content aligns with TNDF’s branding, maintains consistent tone and quality, and is posted or scheduled following review and approval.
  • Monitor social media accounts and respond to messages and comments.
  • Create and manage events on 3Common, coordinating with program staff to set up event details, handle registrations, and respond to participant inquiries.
  • Take and edit photos and videos to add to our content library.

General Duties

  • Assist with Food Services or Social Services programs as needed.
  • Actively participate in fostering a positive organizational culture by promoting collaboration, respect, and teamwork among colleagues, and demonstrating a commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, team trainings, and TNDF community events (e.g., fundraisers, etc.).
  • Offer support to and communicate often with other staff members.
  • Perform other related errands and duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Basic knowledge of or experience with social media platforms.
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite, and/or Canva to create and update graphics.
  • Experience using a camera to capture high-quality photo and video content.
  • Basic photo/video editing skills and an understanding of what makes content engaging and on brand.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong problem-solving, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
  • A familiarity with Brock Township, Durham Region, or rural communities is an asset.
  • Please note that the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. TNDF will cover the cost of this.
