About The Role Reports to: Senior Director Engineering & Advisory
Exergy is seeking a seasoned and self-motivated senior mechanical engineer with minimum 15+ years of EPC or owner/operator facilities experience and a proven record of excellent project delivery. The successful candidate will be engaged to contribute to our project portfolio as needed on a consulting/contract basis. In this role, you will play a key role in developing engineering deliverables across the project lifecycle from scoping studies to detailed design, working closely with the project manager and alongside a multidisciplinary project team. The ideal candidate will bring a problem-solving attitude towards project delivery coupled with deep expertise in mechanical engineering best practices and industry codes and standards . This is an hourly contract position. The candidate must be setup as an independent contractor or an incorporated entity. Note: Exergy is not accepting candidates through recruiters or staffing agencies for this role. Key Responsibilities At Exergy, our work is often challenging yet fulfilling. We pride ourselves in thinking outside the box , offering unique problem solving and sound technical expertise, while exhibiting agility in project execution. This role requires a high level of accountability and includes the following key responsibilities:
- Preparation of mechanical engineering designs, drawings, datasheets, specifications, work packages, reports, schedules, and cost estimates for a wide range of EPC and fabrication projects, with expertise in:
- Sizing and selection of stationary and rotating equipment
- Materials selection, testing, and QA/QC requirements
- Weld and fastener detailing and application of best practices
- Development of procurement and engineering /construction packages
- Vendor engagement and review of bid packages and technical submittals
- Development of site test plans, and startup and commissioning procedures
- Ensuring compliance with ABSA requirements for pressure vessels and piping systems
- Application of pertinent industry codes and standards
- Planning and coordinating detailed phases of mechanical engineering work as pertaining to project scopes and in consideration to interfaces with other disciplines.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality work products on time and on budget.
- Authenticating mechanical engineering deliverables in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience and extensive background in EPC or facilities engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- PEng status in good standing with APEGA.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive client and project team relationships.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A safety-first mindset and awareness of health and safety regulations relevant to the role.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Applied experience in the development of engineering deliverables, including experience with:
- Selection, sizing, and operation of stationary and rotating equipment.
- QA/QC for mechanical packages, material selection, welding design, and fastener specification.
- ABSA requirements, ASME B31.3 piping codes, API 650, ASME Section VIII, and others.
