Role Description The Junior Geotechnical Engineer will support geotechnical investigations and design activities for a variety of civil and infrastructure projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with site investigations, collecting and logging soil samples, performing basic geotechnical analyses, and preparing technical reports under the guidance of senior engineers. The role involves coordinating with field staff, contributing to foundation design recommendations, and helping interpret subsurface conditions for project planning and construction. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Toronto, ON, requiring regular presence at the office and visits to project sites.
Qualifications
Ability to perform and support site investigation activities, including planning, fieldwork, and documentation. Knowledge of soil behavior, classification, and testing methods relevant to geotechnical projects. Foundational skills in geotechnical engineering, including basic analysis, report preparation, and design support. Understanding of engineering geology principles for interpreting subsurface conditions and project risks. Skills related to foundation design, including assisting with shallow and deep foundation recommendations. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in calculations and records. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear field logs and technical summaries. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to travel to local job sites as needed. Eligibility for or interest in obtaining professional engineering licensure in Ontario (EIT status is an asset).
