Reporting to the Design Manager, Designer role is to lead and execute the creative designs and restaurant concept development, including interiors, exterior design, space planning, 3D modelling, and graphic/signage design. Success in this role requires partnering with key internal and external stakeholders, as well as external consulting teams, to recommend, influence, and lead restaurant designs that are efficient, sustainable, innovative, and attractive to the Recipe brand’s current and future customers. May lead major initiatives and projects under limited supervision.
What You Will Do In This Role
- Responsible for facilitating, protecting, and preserving the brand image as it relates to brand concept, operational standards, and design specifications
- Working within the national framework for interior and architectural design with Brand and Construction teams to develop and maintain concept designs
- Responsible for leading the coordination, communication, and prioritizing brand initiatives as they relate to exterior and interior design of RECIPE brands
- Responsible for aligning design standards, including layouts, finishes, and FF&E specifications, to the Brand design intent, marketing, growth strategies, and safety criteria
- Prepare 3D renderings for exterior and interior concept designs, incorporating exterior building materials and interior finishes, to evaluate design concepts and present proposed concepts to Brand leaders
- Reviews all design standards for their overall impact on restaurant profitability and evaluates initial design concept development for décor and operational impact, working with both external and internal designers
- Coordinate the brand finishes, schedules, design standards, and specifications
- Maintains knowledge of current and new code requirements, finishes, restaurant design, and interior design industry trends
- Lead and coordinate brand space planning and service innovation, improving functional restaurant design and value engineering to reduce overall development costs and create more sustainable buildings
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of current and new finishes and lighting materials, equipment, code requirements and restaurant design industry trends
- Work in conjunction with the Vendor Management and Building Standards teams to determine the best designs and finishes costs from the approved RECIPE supplier pool
What We Are Looking For From You
- University degree or Post-Secondary College Diploma required
- Professional interior designer or equivalent restaurant design experience required
- Architectural Technician or Technologist optional
- Must be highly proficient in 3D modelling and renderings, Sketchup (required), 3ds Max (optional), AutoCAD 2D (required) and fluent in MS Office
- Minimum 7-10+ years of design experience working in Restaurant/Bar Interior Design / Hospitality Interior Design / Commercial retail / Architectural knowledge required
- Design and functional knowledge of restaurant equipment and restaurant operations preferred
- Demonstrated skills in design project management
- Strong communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Highly organized, able to handle various types of projects, and prioritize accordingly
- Valid driver's license and driving record within provincial guidelines
