Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Vegetation Ecologist with strong interpersonal skills to support a diverse range of projects across multiple development sectors, including renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, and transportation. The successful candidate will apply their expertise to analyze available data, collect field data, develop assessments, and prepare detailed reports within the vegetation ecology and wetland disciplines. You will work independently and/ or supervise field teams and you will be a key member of the team that moves projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct wetland assessments and vegetation inventories with a focus on communities and species of concern that include rare species

  • Environmental assessments and mitigation plans for municipal, provincial, and federal regulators in multiple sectors, including renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, land development, transportation, renewable energy

  • Work on a variety of natural resource planning projects, including natural area inventories and biophysical assessments

  • Ensure Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures are followed

  • Desktop mapping of wetlands and vegetation communities, including mapping to TEM standards

  • Interact directly with internal and external clients and contribute to developing excellent relationships with clients, regulators, and stakeholders

  • Lead and direct field assessments as required

  • Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work

  • Provide services as a BC Qualified Professional

  • Execute specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects

  • Work proactively to further the technical needs of the team

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient in and consistently demonstrate and promote policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (if applicable)

  • Working knowledge of and experience applying British Columbia’s biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification system

  • Advanced skills in technical writing

  • Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment under deadlines

  • Skilled in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public

  • Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal regulations and guidelines

  • Experience with ecosystem mapping (e.g., TEM) is an asset

  • Experience in pre-and post-mining land capability predictions and reclamation planning is an asset

  • Proficient in MS Office, ArcGIS, or other mapping applications

  • Drive collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality, and appropriately scoped technical work

  • Able to lift 50lbs and endure long days of physically and mentally challenging fieldwork while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude

  • Good driving record and valid Class 5 driver’s license required

Education and Experience

Biology, Ecology, Forestry, or related field.

Minimum 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience including fieldwork.

Professional designation (R.P.Bio) is required.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time, as well as work in the field. Fieldwork may include remote work, long drives, 2+ week shifts away from home, exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Please include detailed information on field-based skills and valid health and safety training (first aid, Ground Disturbance II, auxiliary vehicles, etc.).

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 74,700.00 - Max Salary $ 108,300.00

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 79,200.00 - Max Salary $ 114,800.00

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
