The Opportunity
This position is based at our Mississauga office within the Diabetes Care division and requires on‑site presence four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day.
The MSL Regional Director will manage a field-based team of MSLs in Canada. This role serves as the medical and scientific voice of expertise for Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) products and therapeutic areas. It is a home office-based position focused on medical and scientific engagement with ADC internal and external stakeholders. The director provides expert advice and guidance to Medical Scientific Liaisons who call on key thoughts leaders to discuss ADC products and relevant therapeutic areas, including scientific exchange and professional development . Additionally, the role partners with the Canada Medical Director on medical affairs activities.
The MSL Regional Director ensures ADC’s scientific credibility with established and emerging national and regional thought leaders by fostering scientific dialogue and collaboration in research, publications, and medical exchange, including responding to unsolicited requests for medical information. The director will interface regularly with the Canadian commercial team members and maintain a high level of knowledge to ensure credible dissemination of scientific information to thought leaders, healthcare providers, and healthcare organizations.
The director will collaborate with the North America Field Medical Director and Medical Affairs leadership to plan the strategic vision for the MSL team and provide ongoing updates to leadership.
What You’ll Do
- Provide scientific and medical leadership to the MSL team to ensure professional and credible relationships with thought leaders and external experts of strategic importance to ADC in Canada.
- Ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for ADC in key academic centers by facilitating research and educational initiatives, while supporting requests for medical and scientific information on ADC products or therapeutic areas.
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other in-field leadership and teams while maintaining functional independence.
- Support commercial teams while managing proactive and independent MSL initiatives.- Oversee MSL delivery of credible presentations on scientific matters to healthcare providers, individually or in groups (e.g., meetings, clinical sessions)
- Help identify key opinion leaders (KOLs) for consultant and advisory roles and support the marketing team in selecting speakers for bureaus, product theaters, and educational events.
- Attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences in North America. Manage staffing for the medical affairs section of exhibit booths at scientific meetings and congresses, serving as the single point of contact for this area. Ensure the MSL team develops summaries of key data and other scientifically relevant information to inform ADC strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Ensure all MSL team activities and interactions comply with applicable local and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, company policies, and accepted best practices.
- Guarantee timely completion of all required training by the MSL team.
- Collaborate with the Candian Medical Director, Regional MSL Directors in US and other members of the North America Medical Affairs Leadership team to pull through strategic priorities.
- Report directly to the North America Field Medical Director.
Required Qualifications
- MD/DO, PharmD, DNP, PA-C or PhD, with a minimum of 5 years of people management experience.
- Minimum of 8 years in Pharmaceutical or Medical Technology industry.
