Position Overview:
Position: Mining Reliability Engineer (Onsite) Location: Fort McMurray, AB | Monday–Friday (5x2) | Full-Time, Permanent
The Mining Reliability Engineer for Finning Canada will be based at designated sites in Fort McMurray and will play a key role in delivering technical support and data-driven insights for Caterpillar and Finning contract mining equipment. This position is focused on enhancing equipment management through proactive reliability and performance support, working collaboratively with customer reliability and maintenance teams, branch operations, the Mining Equipment Management team, and Caterpillar.

Job Description:
Equipment Reliability and Optimization (30%)
- Monitor equipment performance and analyze data to identify trends, failures, and bottlenecks.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to improve reliability.
- Lead investigations into excessive downtime and drive corrective actions.
- Review component failure data to support site-level improvements.
Maintenance Strategy Development (20%)
- Develop and refine preventive and predictive maintenance plans using FMEA insights.
- Support condition-based monitoring and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Lead projects aimed at enhancing PA, MA, MTBF, and MTTR metrics.
Data Analysis and Reporting (20%)
- Analyze KPIs and generate reports with actionable insights.
- Maintain data integrity in CMMS and create dashboards using tools like SAP, Maximo, or Power BI.
- Leverage MineStar, VIMS, S-O-S, and inspection data to guide reliability decisions.
Collaboration and Communication (15%)
- Act as the on-site reliability liaison for customer and Finning teams.
- Coordinate with OEMs and internal stakeholders on technical support and warranty matters.
- Support autonomy-related reliability efforts and customer process improvements.
Spare Parts and Inventory Management (10%)
- Ensure availability of critical spares and track component performance.
- Collaborate with Fleet Analysts to benchmark and improve component life.
- Provide data for Caterpillar initiatives and product improvements.
Support and Project Execution (5%)
- Assist with equipment commissioning and ensure compliance with reliability standards.
- Manage lifecycle strategies from acquisition to decommissioning.
Education and Experience Required
- Minimum 5–7+ years of technical experience in mining reliability or maintenance, with a proven ability to influence outcomes.
- A post-secondary degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta or British Columbia is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of mining machine components including diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrain systems, and structural elements.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, design standards, and specifications.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring techniques, including S·O·S fluid analysis.
- Understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Skilled in data analysis and reporting using CAT tools such as SIS2.0, Dealer Connect, TMIWEB, ET, and VIMS.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with strong attention to detail, time management, and independent problem-solving abilities.
