About the role
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tax Manager will be an individual who has domestic and international tax experience, including tax research, tax provision preparation/review, implementation of tax strategies to reduce the overall corporate tax burden and tax compliance. This is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Compliance:
- Manages tax compliance activities, to ensure all necessary tax returns are prepared and filed in a timely manner;
- Manages tax authority relations, including remittances, assessments, reassessments and audits;
- Administers intercompany transfer pricing and compiles contemporaneous documentation;
- Ensures RBA sales tax departments are preparing appropriate tax summaries in accordance with current rules;
- Supports application and compliance for issues related to indirect taxes;
- Reviews tax returns and prepares reconciliations to accounting records;
- Ensures compliance with internal control policies on tax related matters; reviews internal controls and reporting systems to identify opportunities for improvement; Research tax issues and draft memos on findings.
- Tax Planning:
- Participates in developing and implementing tax planning and tax minimization strategies;
- Oversees operation of tax structures to ensure all necessary steps are completed on a timely basis and appropriately accounted for.
- Tax Accounting and Reporting:
- Prepares and reviews tax provisions for audited and reviewed financial statements in accordance with USGAAP;
- Prepares and reviews taxable income forecasts, income tax proofs, tax notes and required reconciliations;
- Assists with advising the accounting department with legal entity accounting for non-consolidated financial statements for tax purposes;
- Prepares book to tax calculations and equivalent for Canada and US companies;
- Liaises with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits/reviews of regulatory financial statements.
- Performs other various duties including some tax research as required from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with accounting for income taxes is required;

Income tax knowledge – completion or working towards completion of Level II CICA in-depth tax course;

Minimum 3-5 years of corporate tax experience in public accounting practice with exposure to public companies; Industry experience is an asset;

An accounting designation is required (CA/CMA/CGA/CPA);

Driven and dedicated to quality work;

Well organized and results oriented;

A positive attitude with passion for problem solving;

Transfer pricing experience is an asset;

Adaptive to change, demonstrating the ability and desire to grow and develop within a role;

Excellent communication skills;

Excellent time management skills;

Experience with surplus calculations, repatriation planning and safe income calculations is an asset.

Ability to work to work overtime during quarter end accounting periods.
