About the role
We are looking for a visionary and collaborative physician leader to join Interior Health as Medical Director, Maternity Services. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of maternal care across the region, working with a dynamic team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered services.
In this role, you will lead the integration and enhancement of maternity services, co-managing strategic initiatives with Regional and Medical Directors. You’ll champion interdisciplinary care models, support innovative roles like Associate Physicians and Physician Assistants, and collaborate with Family Physicians, OB/GYNs, Midwives, and partners to strengthen service delivery.
You’ll provide expert guidance on credentialing, privileging, and medical staff planning, while contributing to initiatives that improve maternal mental health, breastfeeding rates, and prevention of chronic conditions. Your leadership will help expand access to care close to home especially for Indigenous populations and promote the use of telehealth to support perinatal services. You’ll also support and promote collaborative interprofessional models of practice that enhance continuity of care and improve outcomes for patients and families.
The ideal candidate will be consulted as the clinical expert in obstetrical and maternity care, supporting the development of pre-printed order sets and Clinical Decision Support Tools to assist clinical staff in delivering safe, evidence-based care.
This role involves advising on patient transport, access and flow, supporting provincial strategies to increase vaginal birth rates, and improving access to elective surgery. You’ll be actively engaged in quality assurance, patient safety, and accreditation activities, helping to shape a renewed system of care across Interior Health.
If you're passionate about maternal health, committed to innovation and equity, and ready to lead meaningful change, we invite you to apply and help us build a stronger, more inclusive future for families across our communities.
For those interested, Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
