Geographic Information Systems Analyst
About the role
Insight Global is seeking a Geoscience Data Administrator for a leading geoscience technology and consulting organization. This individual will serve as the critical link between raw geological and geophysical datasets received from clients and the advanced modelling and AI-driven workflows performed by technical teams. The ideal candidate will leverage a strong geology background and proven data management expertise to ensure datasets are clean, validated, standardized, and optimized for geological inversion, lithology modelling, and prospectivity mapping initiatives. Working closely with geologists, geophysicists, software developers, and clients, this person will administer geoscience databases, develop Python-based automation solutions, improve data quality processes, and help drive innovative earth science projects that sit at the intersection of geology, technology, and artificial intelligence.
Day-to-Day
Manage, validate, and quality-control drilling, geochemistry, geophysics, lithology, survey, and spatial datasets Administer and maintain geoscience database environments Load, standardize, structure, and manage geological data schemas Engage directly with clients to understand data applicability and limitations Prepare and integrate multidisciplinary datasets for modelling workflows Support inversion, lithology modelling, and prospectivity mapping projects Build and maintain Python-based automation tools, validation checks, and data pipelines Troubleshoot and resolve data inconsistencies and quality issues Maintain data governance standards including metadata, versioning, documentation, and coordinate systems Ensure datasets are analysis-ready for AI/ML and geological modelling applications
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Geology or a closely related geoscience discipline 2–6 years of geological data management experience Demonstrated proficiency with commercial Geoscience Database Management Systems (GDBMS) Working proficiency in Python, SQL or MatLab for data handling, validation, automation, and pipeline development Experience managing and quality controlling geological datasets Strong understanding of data integrity, governance, metadata, version control, and documentation standards Ability to collaborate with geoscience, geophysics, and software development teams Strong communication and client-facing skills Experience validating and integrating multidisciplinary geoscience datasets
