Special Education Teacher - Nuvviti School

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Second Language Curriculum Development, this position entails collaborating with the pedagogical support team to assist schools in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, teaching methods as well as class management and instructional materials.

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Collaborate with education consultants to plan and deliver support solutions and training on programs, approaches, learning and evaluation situations, and other teaching materials to school teachers for a variety of primary and/or secondary courses in French and English;

Familiarize oneself with and promote the KI competency-based approach to learning and evaluation as well as certification pathways open to students with the school administrators, teachers and other staff members;

Be prepared to travel to schools upon request;

Develop and lead training sessions, workshops and possibly professional learning communities with teachers in person and online;

Stay informed of the inventory of teaching and learning materials at KI and assist in the organization of resources on the KI Teacher Microsoft Teams and SharePoint libraries;

Work with other education consultants, departments and school teams to build and support School Success Plans, projects and initiatives;

Carry out related tasks at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

First level university degree in a relevant specialization.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

Legally qualified to teach in the province of Quebec;

Experience as a primary and/or secondary school teacher;

Teaching experience in Nunavik and knowledge of KI programs are major assets;

Fluency in two (2) of the three (3) languages of KI (Inuktitut, English and French);

Computer literacy (in particular with the Microsoft Office 365 suite and Microsoft Teams);

Willingness to travel frequently around the region.

SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $49,456 to $92,027 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.

About Kativik School Board

The Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, the school board of Nunavik, was created in 1975, under the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA).

Under the JBNQA, the Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is granted the power and jurisdiction to develop and deliver specific educational services and programs consistent with Inuit culture. The mission of the Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is therefore twofold. On the one hand, it acts as a regular regional school board for all Nunavik residents. On the other hand, it also acts as an exclusive Inuit institution with unique powers and jurisdictions that aim to protect, maintain, and develop the Inuit language, culture, and way of life.

Since 1978, the Kativik Ilisarniliriniq has been the exclusive provider of academic services to the population of Nunavik. The education programs developed by the school board are offered in all schools of the 14 Nunavik communities, in Inuktitut as first language and in French and English as second languages. The school board operates 17 primary and secondary schools as well as 5 adult education center.
