Job Title: Professor – Aviation (Aircraft Maintenance)

Department: School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology Location: Aviation Campus – North Bay, ON Status: Permanent Full-Time Application Deadline: Posted until filled As a national leader in aviation maintenance education, the School of Aviation and Aerospace delivers Transport Canada approved programs and is committed to developing skills, safety-conscious, and job-ready Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs). Under the direction of the Chair, School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology, the Professor leads and supports learners through effective teaching practices, curriculum delivery, and the creation of a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We are seeking a full-time faculty member to join our Aircraft Maintenance Engineering team. Preference will be given to candidates holding a valid AME-M (M1 and/or M2) licence with broad aircraft maintenance experience and the ability to teach across a wide range of aircraft maintenance subjects. Candidates holding an AME-E licence with significant aircraft maintenance experience and demonstrated ability to teach mechanical systems may also be considered. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, a commitment to learner success, and the ability to deliver both theoretical and hands-on instruction in a Transport Canada-approved training environment.

The primary professional responsibilities include

Teaching assigned courses, including: teaching regularly scheduled classes in the Fall, Winter, Spring semesters ensuring learner awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques providing academic advising to learners both in and out of the classroom creating a hands-on learning environment that makes effective use of shops, labs, and educational technologies, including the College’s Learning Management System (e.g., Desire2Learn/Brightspace) evaluating learner progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the learner’s work within assigned courses the development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all learners promoting a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment aligned with industry standards Designing new and ongoing maintenance of courses, including: defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes aligned with Transport Canada CAR 566 requirements planning appropriate teaching and learning approaches, including lab-based instruction developing and updating course materials related to structures, composites, and maintenance practices incorporating educational technologies to meet the learning needs of learners consulting with other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and learners participating in curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives engaging in professional development activities during non-teaching periods Providing academic leadership, including: working cooperatively with faculty across AME-M, AME-S, and AME-E disciplines to ensure program consistency and quality participating in departmental meetings, committees, and program development activities liaising with industry partners, and supporting program promotion initiatives contributing to a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement maintaining knowledge of industry standards, Transport Canada regulations, and emerging trends following health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation modeling the College values – Respect, Integrity, Transparency, Accountability and Commitment to Excellence Required Qualifications Valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence in good standing or experience in the applicable specialty in order to meet curriculum delivery requirements.

Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience in aircraft maintenance

Demonstrated expertise in: Aircraft maintenance standard practices Aircraft systems and components Aircraft structures and maintenance procedures Aircraft electrical systems and wiring practices Aircraft troubleshooting and defect rectification Use of aircraft technical publications and maintenance documentation.

Experience with standard practices and general maintenance procedures

Familiarity with Transport Canada CAR 566 standards Familiarity with Ontario college system and Transport Canada approved training programs Experience with simulation or technology-enhanced learning Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a college setting. Excellent record of teaching experience along with relevant work experience in the professional field or discipline appropriate to the area of instruction. Experience with a Learning Management System (e.g., Desire2Learn, Blackboard, etc.), including the creation of discussion forums, tests, assignments, chat rooms, to edit and modify course content when required Evidence of having maintained up-to-date knowledge and achievements in the field appropriate to the area of instruction Experience in developing course content, curriculum, and learning materials is an asset; Experience with simulation learning an asset Knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of in-class and online courses as adopted by the Program, including, but not limited to: Using course management system tools to communicate with learners and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between learners in the course; Providing timely and constructive feedback on learner work; Responding to learner academic and course administration inquiries promptly and refer learners to technical support or learner support when appropriate; and, Ensuring academic integrity in the creation and administration of assignments, tests, and exams in class and online environments.

Commitment to practical teaching skills for adult learners, including

a commitment to deliver the prescribed curriculum; a demonstrated ability to apply required instructional techniques; and the ability to create a positive learning environment for adults; pedagogy for diverse populations; and, course management Ability to interact effectively with adult learners, particularly in the areas of: academic advising; understanding and respect for human rights and diversity; and, commitment to positive interpersonal skills. Superior organizational skills and ability to work in a high pressure, multitask, high volume team-oriented environment with minimal supervision. Commitment to professional, collegial life, and awareness of work-integrated learning practices.
