The Role
As a Sr. Cloud Engineer at Showbie, you will play a key role in driving our cloud-native transformation. You’ll work closely with infrastructure and product engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable systems in our AWS-based environment. Your work will directly support our mission of delivering a fast, secure, and dependable platform for teachers and students globally.
You’ll apply DevOps and SRE best practices to optimize infrastructure, enhance developer productivity, and improve service reliability. You’ll also help automate and streamline operations, enabling our teams to ship high-quality code quickly and safely.
Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code practices.

Build and evolve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Github Actions) to support rapid, reliable deployments.

Collaborate with developers to create tools and processes that improve performance, observability, and reliability.

Champion operational excellence through system monitoring, performance tuning, and incident management.

Proactively identify bottlenecks and advocate for improvements in scalability and resiliency.

Participate in occasional after-hours on-call rotations to ensure uptime and respond to critical incidents.
Tech Stack & Tools
We work with a range of technologies — you don’t need experience with all of them, but you should be comfortable with the key concepts and tools:

Cloud: AWS (EKS, EB, EC2, CloudWatch, VPC, RDS, etc.)

Containers: Docker, Kubernetes

IaC & Automation: CloudFormation, Ansible, Terraform (nice to have)

CI/CD: Jenkins, Github Actions
-
Languages & Scripting: Python, Bash/Shell
-
OS: Linux systems administration (e.g. Amazon Linux)

Datastores: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, ScyllaDB

Monitoring & Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools
You
-
5+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles
-
Strong understanding of system architecture, networking, and cloud infrastructure (especially AWS)
-
Experience automating workflows and building tools to support engineering teams

Familiarity with high-availability, auto-scaling systems, and performance tuning
-
Passion for modern DevOps practices and interest in emerging cloud-native technologies
-
Comfortable working collaboratively across teams in an Agile environment

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience

The proposed salary range for this role is: $90,000-$120,000
This role is based in: Edmonton, AB, Canada with the option to work 100% remotely (in Canada).
