Student Research and Engagement Officer
About the role
Reporting to the Director, Student Research and Graduate Studies, the Student Research Engagement Officer manages projects that advance TRU’s strategic priorities, especially for student research and graduate studies. In working towards TRU’s goal to be national leaders for undergraduate and graduate student research, the Officer provides high level project management and student engagement leadership. This position will work closely with multiple related invested partners (e.g., faculty, staff, community) and will manage projects across diverse spaces in virtual and face-to-face settings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing and driving student engagement projects including assigning, overseeing, and reporting on projects with minimal supervision or guidance

Managing student teams for various projects as assigned

Working collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals for projects with competing deadlines
-
Managing and conducting training programs as required for specific projects
-
Supporting and providing input on the assessment and best practices for evaluation of related projects

Participating in strategic planning for TRU undergraduate and graduate student research

Translating high-level initiatives and ideas into understandable and actionable projects

Communicating effectively and in a timely manner with multiple stakeholders

Managing events and ensuring they are coordinated and aligned with the academic cycle and student/faculty/community needs

Working in collaboration with other units to share knowledge, best practices, and opportunities regarding undergraduate and graduate student research

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Education/Experience
-
Bachelors Degree in a related field
-
Two years working experience in a related field, including project management, supervision, budgeting, and program planning

Supervisory experience
-
Knowledge and skills of web development tools
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, with the ability to use judgement and tact when dealing with various stakeholders
- Excellent research skills with ability to synthesize data/information and develop/deliver findings and recommendations
- Experience in using word processing, spreadsheet, database and Internet applications and tools; WordPress knowledge would be an asset
- Ability to work effectively, both independently with minimum supervision, and as part of a team, with an aptitude for creating a collegial and collaborative environment
- Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as needed
- Knowledge of the post-secondary education sector, including policy and managerial issues, would be an asset
- Able to establish priorities, and work on multiple projects concurrently
- Experience in fostering effective communication within and among groups
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Detail oriented, resourceful, innovative, flexible, accessible
