Position Purpose

Responsible for co-ordinating, coaching and supervising safe, enjoyable, quality ski and snowboard lessons for all instructors and participants. For full details, please see attached job description.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent;

  • Minimum 2 years related experience in a ski and snowboard instructor or snow school environment;

  • Ability to confidently ski and snowboard.

  • Provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town;

  • Level 1 Certified Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset.

  • Level 2 Certified Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset.

  • Level 1 Certified Park Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset;

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Special Interest Instructor ¿ Lead Snow School Instructor

Department: Community Services

Reports To: Recreation Services Supervisor

Direction Exercised: Junior Ski & Snowboard Instructors, Ski & Snowboard Instructors and Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Instructors

Employee Group: Sessional

Position Summary

Responsible for co-ordinating, coaching and supervising safe, enjoyable, quality ski and snowboard lessons for all instructors and participants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and facilitation of staff training sessions for all instructors in co-operation with the Recreation Programmer.

  • Assist with direction of day-to-day ¿on site¿ operation of the lessons.

  • Ensures staff adhere to all safety policies and protocol set during lessons.

  • Conduct helmet fittings for lesson participants (if required).

  • Daily inspection of all on-hill snow school equipment.

  • Daily set-up and take down of all on-hill snow school equipment.

  • Provide recommendations on how to adapt terrain to provide continuous learning opportunities for the participants.

  • Ability to cover shifts in the event of instructor absence for both ski and snowboard lessons.

  • Lesson registrations, lesson transfers and updating of family account information.

  • Review and distribution of digital report cards to participants.

  • Assists with coaching and evaluation of ski and snowboard instructors to ensure all staff abide by snow school and departmental policies and procedures and other applicable legislation;

  • Responsible for completing required evaluation reports for all ski and snowboard instructors.

  • Ensures that incident procedures are strictly adhered to at all times;

  • Answers general in-person, telephone and email inquiries and responds to voicemails in a timely manner;

  • Maintain on-going communication with parents/guardians regarding children's progress throughout session.

  • Demonstrates a high-level of customer service and does so in an efficient, courteous and respectful manner.

  • Participate in the Town's Health and Safety Program and follow safety practices in work methods and procedures; observes and complies with all relevant Health & Safety regulations.

  • Immediately report all concerns (including product), suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions to the Recreation Services Supervisor or designate.

Skill/Knowledge Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent;
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in a ski and snowboard instructor or snow school environment;
  • Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset;
  • Ability to confidently ski and snowboard.
  • Level 1 Certified Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset.
  • Level 2 Certified Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset.
  • Level 1 Certified Park Instructor (CSIA or CASI) in considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in and withstand cold temperatures and adverse weather conditions;
  • Ability to take direction and work co-operatively with all levels of staff;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with the general public, participants and parents/guardians.
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision;
  • Effective conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays;
  • Provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
