POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) plays a key role within the Medical Affairs team, serving as a trusted scientific and clinical expert in the field of biologics and biosimilars. This position is responsible for building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), academic institutions, and scientific organizations to support evidence-based patient care and the successful implementation of Fresenius Kabi’s medical strategy.
Acting as a bridge between the medical community and the organization, the MSL provides balanced, non-promotional, and high-level scientific information, ensuring that healthcare providers have timely access to relevant clinical data and therapeutic insights. The role also gathers and communicates field-based scientific intelligence to inform internal strategies and enhance understanding of current treatment landscapes, emerging research, and unmet patient needs.
The MSL contributes to the development and execution of the country medical plan, delivers credible scientific presentations, supports investigator-initiated studies, and facilitates continuous scientific exchange. Through these activities, the MSL helps strengthen Fresenius Kabi’s medical credibility, ensures compliance with ethical and regulatory standards, and ultimately contributes to improving patient outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and maintain trustful professional relations with HCPs (in particular, thought leaders) in the therapeutic area (TA) of interest
- Define, identify, develop and expand long-term collaborative partnerships with medical and scientific communities, institutions and societies in the therapeutic areas of interest and be recognized as an expert for the product group of biological medicinal products and biosimilars
- Be able to respond queries in relation to the specific therapeutic area and the product of interest
- Deliver credible and unbiased clinical and/or scientific presentations to internal and external stakeholders
- Respond to HCPs requests providing information and technical support on product characteristics, marketing authorisations, scientific publications, clinical trial updates, disease pathophysiology, treatment algorithms (list not exhaustive)
- Gather insights, identify emerging treatment and market trends and developments and bring them to the attention of the relevant functions at the local and global level
- Collaborate with the divisional as well as regional teams, supporting on demand internal trainings to ensure the exchange of up-to-date scientific, clinical and therapeutic updates.
- Conceptualize, organize, chair and implement medical-scientific events (e.g. CME-certified scientific training, advisory boards, congress symposia, round tables, advanced training for practitioners).
- Provide medical partnership to HCPs: e.g. by supporting speakers, contribute to managing clinical trials, facilitating development of Investigator Study Proposals and supporting publication of external clinical data accordance with company policy.
- Support the Senior Director, Medical Affairs in the definition of the medical plan, define and implement tactics at the country level
- Lead the field management of IIS/IIT (clinical studies) and phase IV clinical studies
- Acquire and maintain expertise and continuous education in the relevant therapeutic areas, by literature revision, and participation in scientific meetings as well as Fresenius Kabi Biosimilar therapeutic area training sessions
- Maintain knowledge, understanding and compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, legislation and company policies and SOPs, as well as able to demonstrate personal leadership in ethical and governance-related activities and discussions.
- The role holder must comply with policies or procedures relating to data privacy or information security.
- This role is cross-functional, will aid building and maintaining Fresenius Kabi’s scientific credibility within the medical community and will support the HCP in the making decisions regarding appropriate therapeutic options for their patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Scientific degree at the university level; PhD or MD preferred
- Knowledge of immunology with prior experience in biologics/biosimilars, particularly within rheumatology, gastroenterology, and dermatology
- Working knowledge of the local healthcare system, including understanding of clinical priorities and operational processes
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and familiarity with regulatory processes
- Familiarity with clinical research, including interventional and non-interventional studies, and principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time, with occasional evening and weekend work
SKILLS
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with experience developing and delivering scientific and product presentations
- Critical appraisal skills for evaluating studies and clinical evidence to support high-level scientific discussions
- Proven ability to serve as a subject matter expert and effectively present at internal and external scientific engagements (e.g., trainings, advisory boards, journal clubs)
- Strong initiative and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop proactive solutions to business challenges
- Customer focus and business acumen, ensuring scientific exchange aligns with patient and stakeholder needs
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently in dynamic environments
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and align with cross-functional medical plans
- Ability to respond appropriately to unsolicited requests for off-label product information in compliance with company policies
