As we scale our platform and operationalise machine learning in production, we are strengthening our team leadership to support intelligent, reliable, and future-ready backend and data-driven services.

The Role

In this role, you will be a senior technical engineer responsible for leading a backend-focused team working at the intersection of platform engineering, data pipelines, and AI/ML-enabled systems.

You will combine strong technical leadership with people leadership, ensuring that architectural vision and strategic goals are translated into concrete plans, priorities, and day-to-day execution. You will work closely with engineers, architects, ML specialists, and product leadership to ensure high-quality delivery and long-term platform evolution.

What you will do

• Lead and support a senior backend team working with platform services, data pipelines, and AI/ML-related workflows
• Translate architectural vision and business strategy into concrete technical plans, priorities, and execution
• Collaborate closely with ML engineers and data teams to support production-grade machine learning systems
• Provide technical leadership on data and ML pipelines, including workflow orchestration using tools such as Apache Airflow or similar
• Guide and review backend development, with a strong focus on Python-based services, pipelines, and automation
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and cloud-native solutions
• Balance hands-on technical involvement with people leadership, coaching, and mentorship
• Ensure high standards for reliability, observability, security, and operational excellence
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, collaboration, and delivery

We imagine you come with

• Extensive experience as a senior backend engineer, typically at Senior or Staff level, with a strong technical foundation
• Strong proficiency in Python, especially in backend services, data processing, or automation contexts
• Experience working with AI/ML-enabled platforms and a solid understanding of how machine learning is operationalised in production
• Hands-on experience with data or ML pipelines, including workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or similar
• Strong background in backend and distributed systems
• A clear leadership mindset, with experience translating vision and strategy into concrete plans and execution
• Comfortable taking ownership, setting direction, and ensuring follow-through
• Strong communication skills and the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers, formally or informally
