As a Specialist – Senior Applications Support within our ITS infrastructure & Data Centre Operations Department, you will be responsible for the support, maintenance, and optimization of Human Capital Management (HCM) systems, primarily PeopleSoft, and other enterprise applications.
What will your typical day look like?
- Provides Level 3 technical support for HCM systems (e.g., PeopleSoft), including configuration, integration, reporting, troubleshooting, patching, and enhancements.
- Administers, maintains, and optimizes application databases using Microsoft SQL Server, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning, backups, restores, and replication.
- Collaborates with functional teams, HR, finance, and vendors to analyze business requirements and implement technical solutions.
- Maintains and monitors PeopleSoft application servers, web servers, and process schedulers, both on-premises and in Azure.
- Monitors and supports PeopleSoft batch processes, job scheduling, and integration points (e.g., API, SFTP).
- Applies updates, bundles, fixes, and PeopleSoft upgrades (e.g. PUM and PeopleTools), ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
- Develops and maintains documentation, runbooks, and procedures for operational support.
- Ensures deployments follow properly defined Deployment, Change Management, and Quality Assurance processes.
- Participates in cross-departmental projects to define, evaluate, and implement application-related requirements.
- Recommends improvements for supporting application environments, including automation, forecasting, consolidating servers, implementing security enhancements, and decommissioning old applications.
- Provides expertise on the necessary tools for reporting on all application metrics and analyzing metrics for improvements.
- Participates in project teams to identify technical requirements and specifications for any new applications to be installed; review project proposals and make recommendations on hardware, software, and licensing.
- Performs technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the application environments in Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments.
- Innovates solutions and tools that meet project needs, while managing feasibility and associated risks.
- Defines the technological vision (e.g., roadmap) and guide the design of new solutions or the evolution of existing technical solutions.
- Proposes coherent and effective solutions, ensuring their scalability, modularity, and integration.
- Maintains documentation on technical solutions and ecosystems for future reference and consultation.
- Develops, maintains, and validates disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Participates in after-hours and on-call support when needed.
- Mentors intermediate and junior staff.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

You are someone with:
- A University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One or more certifications in the following, or equivalent, required:
- Azure Database Administrator Associate
- PeopleSoft Human Resources 9.x Certified Implementation Specialist
- Oracle WebLogic Server 12c: Advanced Administrator II
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience supporting HCM or similar enterprise applications (e.g., SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, Workday, ADP, or others).
- Five (5) years or more of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, database design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server environments and services.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure, including resource deployment, management, monitoring, and Azure Site Recovery (ASR).
- Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting secure, highly available, and scalable application environments.
- Proactive monitoring and health checks to ensure that application environments are maintained, and capacity is available to provide optimal performance to end users.
- Day-to-day operational work for application administration, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Experience working with SaaS backups, restores, and recovery models (e.g., Metallic or Cohesity).
- Experience with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools such as Dynatrace, DataDog, Splunk, LogicMonitor, or SolarWinds.
- Knowledge of PeopleTools, Application Designer, Integration Broker, and Change Assistant.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC) preferred.
- Knowledge of DevOps concepts, automation, and technologies used in Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., CI/CD tools such as Ansible, Gitlab, Docker, Jenkins, Python).
- Basic understanding of project management methodologies is an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges.
What we offer
The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $71,653.00 to $120,727.00 per annum. Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($98,996.00 - $120,727.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire. This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid remote working arrangements.
