Job Summary

The Faculty of Dentistry promotes and provides oral health care as an integral component of overall health for regional, national and international communities through quality education, research and service. Reporting to the Manager of Medical Device Reprocessing, the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician performs all duties associated with the collection and distribution of patient care items and the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization handling, storage, picking and dispensing of patient care medical devices and supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, complete all phases of Dental Clinic sterilization process including picking of supplies for all dental treatments.

  • Prioritize workload to meet clinical requirements of all Dental Clinic units for approximately 400 appointments daily.

  • Check approximately 40 different tray setups, kits and packaged items. Remove excess consumable debris from tray set ups as required.

  • Ensure all items are correctly assembled, packaged, sealed, identified and sorted for appropriate sterilization method.

  • Complete testing procedures to ensure proper operation of sterilization equipment.

  • Under minimal supervision, work in our Clinic Dispensary ensuring accurate dispensing of medical devices to students staff and faculty, ensure inventory control, CSA compliance, and excellent patient service.

Note

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Central Service Technician (Purdue University Correspondence Course, or equivalent), plus approximately one to three years’ of experience working in a health care or hospital environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Organizational skills as well as the ability to multi-task and set priorities.

The successful candidate must provide proof of up-to-date immunization for the following: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B. A copy of the lab report for Hepatitis B surface antibodies must be provided along with evidence of the 2 Step Mantoux (Tuberculin) test. Annual Influenza inoculation is recommended. The successful candidate must keep their immunization status current during their employment.
