Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an excellent opportunity for someone who loves being active while at work, enjoys working in a hospital setting, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, is comfortable walking or standing for long periods of time and can lift up to 50 lbs (or assisting to lift up to 157.5 kgs) on a regular basis. As a Service Worker I in the Emergency Department, this position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and visitor experience by managing linens, monitoring inventory of supplies, waste handling, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The role requires the ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently while adapting to the needs of the department. You possess strong customer service, teamwork, the ability to work alone, and prioritizing skills. The successful candidate also has a patient-first approach and is able to follow oral and written instructions. Motor coordination and hand-eye coordination are needed, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment which may be stressful at times. As this position requires a lot of walking and standing, it’s a perfect way to get your steps in, keep your cardio up, and keep in shape while greatly helping Albertans and your healthcare system!
Description
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications
Strong communication and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary team.
Problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and sound judgment.
Time management skills.
Adaptability in a rapidly moving environment.
This position's rotation includes shifts from 9:45am-5pm and 4:45pm-12am. The successful candidate's availability must be such to accommodate these work hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working as a Porter in the Emergency Dept. Knowledge of hospital procedures and equipment operation. A valid WHMIS certificate is an asset. Basic computer proficiency and experience with Connect Care. Trained in the “Move Safe” ergonomic program and the “It’s Your Move” client handling program.
