Job Information:TheGIS Specialistis responsible for fulfilling internal sales team mapping requests in a timely manner.
The position requires strong interpersonal and time management skills. The main purpose of this position is to provide a wide range of maps related to PATTISON products, Points of Interest and demography, to support PATTISON’s sales teams across the country. The successful applicant will report to PATTISON’s Senior Director of Research, Media & Strategy in Toronto.
What you’ll do…
- Create a wide range of maps in various formats such as PDF, HTML(Leaflet) and KML to support PATTISON’s sales teams across Canada
- Build, update and maintain geospatial databases in MapInfo and PATTISON internal systems
- Digitizing, editing, and performing spatial queries and analysis in MapInfo Pro
- Review geospatial data for accuracy, data preparation and cleanup
- Develop high quality custom maps and reports
- Convert data (e.g., GTFS) and conduct GIS analysis, such as buffer analysis, distance calculation
- Organize and manage geospatial data for improving accuracy, data preparation and cleanup
- Provide flexible GIS solutions to ad-hoc requests
- Create polygons according to projects and requests
- Address and resolve issues relating to project and/or data
- Establish good rapport and build relationships with peers and sales teams by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner
Who you are …
- Proficiency in using MapInfo Pro, QGIS and Google Earth
- Familiarity with vector data formats, such as Shapefile, MapInfo tab, KML, CSV and WKT
- Capability of writing and maintaining JavaScript, Python and SQL scripts for completing repetitive daily tasks
- Knowledge of traffic data and transit systems is an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently
- A keen attention to detail
- Self-starter, critical thinker, with strong logic, reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Active learner, open to taking direction and able to apply feedback to future tasks
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
Qualifications...
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Cartography, Geography, or related field of study, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 (five) years professional experience in GIS
- Must have extensive experience in using MapInfo or equivalent
- Work experience in using VLOOKUP in Excel and dealing with massive datasets
- Knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, R or SQL
- Work experience using BI tools, such as PowerBI or Looker
- A high proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Words, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and Google (Google Earth, Google My Map)
