Crofton House School is currently seeking a debate and public speaking coach. 

As a co-curricular coach, you will work collaboratively with the Assistant

Director, Student Life, and teacher sponsors to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students in your care.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Debate and Public Speaking teacher sponsors and student leaders to promote, plan and deliver a program that meets the needs of club members

  • Support the Debate and Public Speaking ClubCaptains as they develop their leadership skills by providing them with support, guidance and feedback

  • Organize, plan, and facilitate weekly debate and public speaking training sessions for students in Grades 8-12, Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:00 pm

  • Assist in coordinating and planning debate tournaments 

  • Maintain accurate attendance records during training sessions and tournaments throughout the year

  • Act as a primary supervisor for students both in weekly training sessions and at tournaments on weekends, which may include travelling locally, nationally, and internationally

  • Register for tournaments and confirm student teams competing in collaboration with the Debate and Public Speaking teacher sponsors

  • Maintain open communication with the school administration and teaching staff

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times

  • Other responsibilities as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience

  • 1 - 3 years of coaching experience in secondary school level debate

  • Be knowledgeable of the Debate and Speech Association of BC and/or National Speech and Debate Association competitive debates

  • Demonstrable awareness of the learning styles of girls and young women

  • Committed to the standards of professionalism

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

This role starts September 2026.

Compensation: From $6,000 - $8,000 depending on experience and time commitment.
