About the role
Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager, Maintenance & Technical Services, the Chief Engineer will direct and coordinate the powerhouse/refrigeration staff in the day-to-day operation of the powerhouse equipment. They will also provide instructions on estimated labor, equipment requirements and materials. A chief engineer will approve most vendor and contractor agreements associated with the projects or plans. They will be involved in the projects from beginning to end.
Key Accountabilities
- Management of Powerhouse and Refrigeration Department Budget
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures, user manuals and training materials
- Ensure efficient operation of equipment and departmental services
- Lead a staff of Power House and Refrigeration Employees
- Analyze current and future opportunities for cost savings
- Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations
- Ensure compliance with various government regulations and maintain all relevant documentation
- Project management for operating improvements.
- Approve operator work orders and make sure that the work done by team members complies with applicable codes, building regulations and standard operation procedures.
- Assist with the operator budget and delegate workloads to their staff
- Collaborate with various third-party vendors or contractors in the development of products for their plans and project.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing maintenance and repair services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and maintain plant equipment, machinery and related facilities.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit including recommended purchasing of all Engine Rooms and repair equipment and supplies.
- Train reporting staff on safety regulations and procedures.
- Respond to and maintain order in emergency situations.
- Communicate regularly on-site with Department Superintendent and their teams on the status of maintenance/project implementation and coordinate activities within to minimize any disruption to operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Stationary Engineer 3rd Class or Refrigeration operator Class B.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Experience in Engineering, management, computer software and continuous improvement are considered assets
- Demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting, analytical and multi-tasking skills.
- Must have computer skills for entering inventory records, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage a team and worked on complex technical projects.
- Proven familiarity with building and infrastructure systems, equipment and comprehending blueprint instructions.
