Job Description KEY Accountabilities:
- Ability and willingness to represent Ridge Meadows and work within the mission, vision and values.
- Demonstrate compassion in the administration of policies and procedures and to support, where and when possible, the efforts of all participants and co-workers.
- Prepare meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents.
- Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
- Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste.
- Follow guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence.
- May supervise students, volunteers and/or residents in duties.
- May order food supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- a frequent amount of standing, moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking.
- lifting more than 20 pounds.
- frequent attention to the preparation of food, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and occasionally ordering supplies.
- travel up to 30% of the time.
- is responsible as a group/work leader; is responsible for providing direction and checking results but generally works along with those supervised.
The work environment is typically in a kitchen in a ministry unit/social services facility under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Dealing with angry people
- Verbal Abuse
- Hot/Steamy environment
- Noisy
- Crowded in some cases
- Pressure with timelines
- Cuts, Burns and entering freezers
May be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical or verbal attacks by others
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving objects
- Sharp objects
- Electrical hazards
- Injury from lifting
- Falling on wet/slippery floors
- Cuts, Burns and entering freezers
Must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Universal Precautions
- Use of rubber mats
- Use of gloves provided
Education, Qualifications And Certifications
- completed a minimum of High School, plus Cook’s papers (1 year course) and Food Safe 1
- CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training is an asset
- Criminal Record Check
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements Skills and Capabilities
- prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience
- the ability to work with minimum supervision under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- the willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public and effective communication skills
- adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- team oriented and able to take initiative and meet deadlines
- high standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality
- strong decision making and organizational skills
- the ability to lift more than 20 pounds
Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
