About the role

The Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) is seeking an energetic, creative, and highly motivated Digital Content and Field Operations Coordinator to join our team.

The primary focus of this position will be supporting AFL communications and campaigns related to green jobs, just transition, energy transformation, and Alberta's move toward an increasingly electrified economy. The successful candidate will develop digital content, worker stories, videos, and campaign materials that help engage Albertans in conversations about the future of work, energy, and economic development in the province.

The AFL is Alberta's largest central labour body, representing hundreds of thousands of unionized workers across the province. We advocate for fairness, dignity, and economic justice for working people and are committed to building a stronger labour movement through communications, organizing, and public engagement.

What You'll Do As the Communications and Digital Content Coordinator, you will:

Create Compelling Digital Content Capture high-quality photography and video content at AFL events, rallies, conferences, campaigns, and community activities. Produce and edit short-form and long-form video content for social media, websites, digital advertising, and campaign communications. Conduct interviews and create worker-centered stories that highlight the experiences and voices of working people. Manage and organize digital photo and video assets.

Support Livestreams and Digital Events Assist with livestreams, virtual town halls, webinars, press conferences, and online events. Operate cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and livestream technology. Help produce podcasts, online training sessions, and digital campaign events. Ensure professional production standards for live and recorded content.

Grow Digital Reach and Engagement Develop content designed to increase audience engagement and supporter participation. Support AFL digital communications and campaign strategies. Monitor analytics and performance metrics and recommend improvements. Assist with social media content creation, scheduling, and amplification. Identify emerging trends, platforms, and storytelling opportunities.

Support Campaigns and Organizing Create videos, photography, graphics, and promotional materials for campaigns and mobilization efforts. Assist with rapid-response communications during major events and campaigns. Support digital organizing initiatives and supporter engagement activities. Contribute content that advances affiliate engagement, public education, advocacy, and political action campaigns. What We're Looking For Qualifications Diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, digital media, marketing, public relations, film production, or a related field. Demonstrated experience creating professional photo, video, and digital content. Experience supporting livestreams, webinars, or digital events. Strong understanding of social media, audience growth, and digital engagement strategies. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving environment. Knowledge of the labour movement, social justice advocacy, political campaigns, or community organizing is considered an asset. Technical Skills Experience with some or all of the following: Professional photography and videography equipment Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects) Canva Livestream platforms and production software Social media management tools Podcast and audio editing software Website content management systems Analytics and performance reporting tools

Working Conditions Regular travel throughout Alberta may be required. Evening and weekend work will be required to support campaigns, conferences, events, and mobilization activities. Work may take place in office, field, outdoor, and event settings. The successful candidate must be able to transport and operate photography, video, and audiovisual equipment. Why Join the AFL?
