Role Description The Electrical Design Technologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Richmond Hill, ON. This role is responsible for supporting the design and development of electrical systems for power generation and industrial process solutions, including preparing drawings, schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.

The Electrical Design Technologist collaborates with engineers and cross-functional teams to develop prototypes, integrate electrical designs with mechanical and civil elements, and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards. Day-to-day activities include reviewing project requirements, performing design calculations, assisting in layout and panel design, preparing and updating electrical drawings, and communicating design updates to project stakeholders.

This position requires a versatile, hardworking, and hands-on individual with a strong work ethic and the ability to support a wide range of machines, systems, applications, and project situations. The successful candidate should be prepared to work across multiple types of systems, electrical panels, controls, wiring layouts, industrial equipment, testing setups, and customer-specific requirements.

The role requires involvement during every phase of the project lifecycle, including concept development, design, prototyping, procurement support, manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, delivery, installation support, and post-sales technical support where needed. The Electrical Design Technologist must be comfortable moving between design work, hands-on technical support, shop-floor coordination, field-related issues, and customer support activities as required.

The role also involves participating in design reviews, supporting prototype development, assisting during testing and commissioning, resolving technical issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will help strengthen design processes, documentation standards, product reliability, practical build-ability, and customer support practices.

Qualifications Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design, electrical engineering technology, power generation, industrial systems, controls, manufacturing, or a related technical environment. Candidates should possess hands-on experience working with electrical panels, wiring, controls, generators, testing equipment, troubleshooting, commissioning, and practical shop-floor or field support activities. Experience working across multiple machines, electrical systems, generator configurations, industrial applications, and project conditions is strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting projects during all phases, from initial design and prototyping through manufacturing, testing, commissioning, installation support, troubleshooting, and post-sales service. Candidates should possess skills in Front-End Development and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for creating and maintaining simple internal user interfaces and design tools. Candidates should possess skills in Prototyping and User Interface Design to develop, test, and refine design concepts and internal engineering tools. Candidates should possess foundational Civil Engineering knowledge to coordinate electrical layouts with structural and site requirements. Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Experience with electrical design software, such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar, and the ability to interpret and prepare electrical schematics, layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Understanding of industrial power systems, generators, electrical controls, panels, and relevant electrical codes and standards. Experience supporting testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, customer service, and post-sales technical support activities is considered an asset. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with close attention to detail, safety, quality, and practical execution. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. A dependable, adaptable, self-motivated, and hands-on work style, with a demonstrated strong work ethic and willingness to support customers, project teams, production teams, service teams, and internal operations as needed.
