About the role

What you'll do:

The Building Services Electrician is responsible for maintaining and repairing distribution center power supply equipment and systems and recommending improvements, upgrades or rework to same to maintain building supply power uptime.

This role is for the AJ Billes Distribution Centre's Monday to Friday day shift, 5:45am-3:45pm, totaling 40 hours per week

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures; working in a safe and effective manner

  • Perform service and preventative maintenance on all equipment within the DC

  • Respond to all equipment breakdowns in a timely manner based on priority systems

  • Maintain accurate parts and work order records (logged hours, Stores parts used, and detailed comments on failure cause/solution(s) or other relevant technical details) on computerized maintenance system (MAXIMO is an asset)

  • Perform repairs with minimal supervision, take responsibility and make decisions to see the job to completion within time demands

  • Troubleshoot electrical systems through the use of electrical schematics, personal computers, panel layouts or manufacturer's specifications to effect repair

  • Repair of typical DC 600V power equipment includes electrical panels, circuit breakers, power factor correction equipment, generator supply systems

  • Assist external high voltage contractors for inspection, analysis, recommendations and repair of high voltage equipment and systems: transformers, distribution panels and systems, internal/external substations

  • Provide information on power supply equipment/system problems to coordinator and provide updates as required

  • Provide required shift change hand-off information on equipment repairs or work orders to shift coordinator and incoming trades as required

  • Make recommendations to improve equipment operation/efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and improve maintenance service to customers

  • Demonstrate flexibility when tasks are reassigned or altered

  • Follow maintenance quality and standard operating procedures as established

What you bring:

  • Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification) or #309A Construction Electrician or Industrial Electrician – 442A with relevant industrial experience

  • Experience effectively 2 and 3-phase troubleshooting power equipment systems/controls problems and investigating the root cause of such problems

  • Experience with generator systems and auto transfer switching

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment as well as various testing procedures to diagnose and repair/setup of such equipment

  • Experience in the installation, trouble shooting and repair of DC Controllers and AC drives from power supply and operation perspective

  • Experience in working with computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)

  • Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet and climbing ladders, stairs

  • Ability to stand for long periods with occasional laying down, stooping and crouching, plus frequent heavy lifting

Considered an asset:

  • Experience working on conveyors, sortation equipment, towlines & cranes
  • Experience with power harmonics, ground loops, power quality
  • Experience with Maximo
  • Demonstrated ability to plan/execute own work effectively and efficiently Demonstrated ability to work effectively either alone or with other electricians
  • Technical training via apprenticeship

Wage will consider skills and years of experience. S**uccessful external candidates are eligible for a 1-time signing bonus after meeting Canadian Tire conditions
