MANAGER, MARKETING PARTNERSHIPS

We are the largest private supporter of high-performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing Partnerships, the Manager, Marketing Partnerships works within the Marketing Partnerships team and across all internal departments to support the business needs of a portfolio of COC Partners and the overall marketing strategy of the COC. This individual is specifically responsible for leading all aspects of Partner relations including partner strategy, program development, approvals, client servicing and administration. The Manager will lead on a select portfolio of Premier National and National accounts and will coach a team of direct report(s) supporting a portfolio of Official Supporters and Suppliers. This individual is skilled at and enjoys building sport brands, solving business & marketing challenges, driving brand/benefits usage, delivering the highest level of customer service, and working in a fast-paced environment.

LOCATION

This role will be located in one of the COC’s offices (in Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West; or in Toronto, ON at 250 Yonge St. Suite 3000). We offer a hybrid work model that allows for up to two days of remote work each week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

Partner Servicing

  • Lead the on-going servicing and account management of Team Canada marketing partners, including guiding them through strategy, planning, development, and execution of their partnership activations
  • Enhance partner value by working with Partners and their agencies to develop and execute programs which leverage a Partner’s involvement with the Canadian Olympic Team to drive Partner and COC business objectives
  • Lead in the development, execution and administration of Partner programs for Premier National, and National Partners which leverage their involvement with the Canadian Olympic Team
  • Manage the approval process for all Partner marks use and activation plans
  • Liaise with the internal COC stakeholders to ensure proper delivery of Partner benefits and to build activation programs tied to Games, Athlete, Fundraising and Community related programs
  • Work with the Marketing Partnerships team to establish a detailed service plan that supports and enhances Partner programs
  • Collaborate with Commercial Affairs colleagues to inform Marketing Partner Activation Guidelines, monitor and manage commercial rights infringements while working closely with Partners to ensure they have the tools to maximize their brand association rights
  • Manage budgets for all assigned marketing partner accounts including servicing, activation, hospitality, and other expenses
  • Collaborate closely with the Director, Marketing Partnerships and Senior Director, Marketing Partnerships, Business Development, and Commercial Affairs to support partner renewal strategies within portfolio through detailed analysis, market research, and strategic planning.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of existing partnerships, benchmark against industry standards, and identify growth opportunities to inform renewal discussions.
  • Manage the process of bringing incremental investment opportunities to your portfolio of marketing partners including COC events, digital activations, and other programmatic opportunities as they arise Manage the organization, tracking, and delivery of contractual assets, gaining alignment with partners for strategic allocation and deployment

Brand Marketing & Communications

  • Leverage marketing partner programs and activations to further develop and strengthen the Team Canada brand
  • Work closely with the COC’s Brand & Digital Marketing team to execute COC programs and events with Partner activations; specifically managing Partner activations, recognition and engagement
  • Keep marketing partners informed of all COC and Olympic activities so that they can anticipate and schedule promotional activities accordingly
  • Keep COC staff informed of all Partner Olympic-related activities
  • Maintain marketing partner contact reports to support the growth of COC and Olympic marketing knowledge
  • Work closely with other Brand & Commercial Management colleagues teams to leverage digital and social media story-telling opportunities for Partners Maintain technical and professional proficiency of the Sports Marketing industry, as well as of Partners’, and prospective Partners’, industries

Special Projects

  • Lead the strategy and implementation of special projects across the Marketing Partnerships team. Examples include (but not limited to):
    • Go-to-Market planning for Games specific partner opportunities
    • Partner engagement
    • Partnership strategy workshops
    • Partnership research
    • IOC relationship management Partner activation guideline development & communication

Team Leadership

  • Act as a leader within the Marketing Partnerships team
  • Responsible for managing and coaching direct report(s) to ensure they are executing on defined roles & responsibilities within the marketing partnerships function Lead full-cycle performance management for direct report(s), including setting objectives and KPIs, providing regular and consistent feedback, and coaching on personal / professional development

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Sport Business, or a related field 5-7 years of proven marketing experience within sponsorship and/or sports marketing

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated exceptional client service experience
  • Strong understanding of core marketing concepts, activating sponsorships, and valuation
  • Curiosity for and desire to learn more about the business of sport, and about the business challenges Partner companies face across various industries
  • An affinity for building strong relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Bilingualism (French, English) is an asset
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines and deploy resources in areas that have greatest positive impact on results
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Strong balance between attention to detail and the bigger picture
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with various internal and external colleagues/stakeholders
  • Digital/social media familiarity, experience with platforms an asset
  • Strong computer software expertise required, including Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Proven leadership and/or people/team management experience
