About the role

Tomlinson is Eastern Canada’s leader in environmental, construction and transportation infrastructure services. Tomlinson Environmental Services is seeking to hire a Clam Truck Driver to safely operate a heavy-duty truck and is responsible for preparing, loading, and transporting various waste streams to disposal sites, transfer or recycle facilities. Clam Truck Drivers will navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, high traffic roadways and may operate in tight overhead environments while on industrial routes. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential, to successfully perform this job. This position involves working from Monday to Friday from 6AM to 5:00PM (the ending time could vary).

Location: 970 Moodie Drive.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates vehicle in accordance with Tomlinson’s Safe Operating Practices and MTO (Ministry of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, municipal, provincial, and federal laws.

  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment and documents checks on standard VIR (Vehicle Inspection Report).

  • Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.

  • Participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings required by Tomlinson Environmental Services or Route Manager.

  • Works closely with Route Managers to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.

  • Notifies Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.

  • Notifies Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways or potential safety hazards.

  • Communicates customer requests to Route Manager or Dispatch.

  • Identifies and reports all containers in need of repair or replacement.

  • Completes and submits customer tickets as required.

  • Follows route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and the Driver Check In process.

  • Performs all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs

  • Must be able to work outdoors year round in all weather conditions

  • Clam operation is conducted at elevated height while wearing a safety harness

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid Ontario DZ Drivers License.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience, ideally in Waste Collection or similar industry.
  • Logging or similar industry would be an asset.
  • Clean drivers abstract and CVOR required.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

The expected wage for this position is $36.00 - $38.00 per hour. Placement within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
