Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Services, the Law Clerk will work alongside our leading legal professionals to support financial services transactions.
The successful candidate can be based out of Ottawa, Toronto, or work remotely within Ontario.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with legal professionals at the Firm on various financial services transactions
- Conduct Personal Property Security Act (“PPSA”) searches and registrations across Canada
- Provide transactional support to legal professionals at the Firm, including managing closing agendas and deliverables, drafting corporate consents, resolutions and certificates, assisting with the execution and closing of financing transactions, and preparing closing records
- Organize and maintain client files and records using the Firm’s document management system
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel and third parties, as directed
- Manage competing requests and meet deadlines while protecting confidential and sensitive data in compliance with Firm security protocols
- Assist with the implementation, maintenance and improvement of new technologies for financial services transactions, as appropriate
- Contribute to the continued design and improvement of our enhanced service delivery model for clients
- Undertake projects and other responsibilities on an as-needed basis
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
This position requires a completion of a Law Clerk diploma or a university degree or college diploma in a business or legal discipline with 1 – 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced legal environment, preferably in a large corporate law firm. Membership in a professional organization (e.g. The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario) is an asset. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and prioritize multiple competing tasks
- High proficiency in using technology and ability to adapt to change
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A team player who also works well independently
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Disciplined execution and follow-through; excellent time management skills
- Customer service oriented
- Excellent problem-solving skills and problem-solving mindset
- Strong ability to learn existing business practices
- Familiarity with corporate or financing transactions
- Familiarity with the PPSA
