Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Access Worker supervises children’s visits, observing and preparing accurate and detailed documentation of all visits.

Accountabilities:

Client Services:

  • Supervise children’s visits according to Court orders or other relevant agreements.
  • Communicate with clients as required regarding childcare instructions, etc.
  • Intervene when appropriate to ensure child safety and welfare and terminate visit when required.
  • Provide feedback/correction to the relevant party as necessary.

Administration

  • Observe what is seen and said during supervised access visits and prepare accurate and detailed documentation of all visits as per program requirements.
  • Review documentation notes for accuracy and submit to Team Lead prior to end of shift.

Health and Safety:

  • Use all appropriate mandated safety equipment.
  • Ensure all program space is tidy and clean prior to and after visits
  • Follow safe work procedures, know and comply with all regulations.
  • Report any injury or illness immediately or unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Participate in all training.
  • Know all hazards, including those outside own work area.
  • Know were the first aid kits and fire extinguishers are located and how to use them.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a regular part time position based on 1 to 10 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements.
  • Normal Work Hours: Work will be scheduled as per operational requirements; evening and weekend work is required. The supervisor will set hours of work and work schedule.
  • Normal Work Location: 365 14th Street West, Owen Sound, ON N4K 3X9
  • Satellite Work Location: Bruce Grey Child & Family Services – 5 McGivern St West, Walkerton, ON N0G 2V0
  • Some travel up to 40% is required from Owen Sound to Walkerton. A program vehicle will be used when travel is required.
  • Required to follow precautionary measures, i.e., universal precautions (COVID precautions), required to wear PPE where applicable

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed an Undergraduate University Degree in Social Work, Counselling, or Psychology preferred.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; current copy of a Driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • A valid First Aid & CPR Certification is required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in a Supervised Access program, or in a comparable setting working with children and families in crisis.
  • Knowledge regarding the impact of separation and divorce on families, particularly children
  • Knowledge of broad range of social issues affecting families including mental health, substance abuse, family dynamics, separation/divorce, abuse, intimate partner violence and child development
  • Experience in negotiation, conciliation and conflict management.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
