About the role

The Granite Club is looking for an Assistant Retail Manager who will partner with the Retail Manager to ensure the seamless daily operation of the Granite Gear retail outlet, with a strong focus on delivering exceptional Member service. This role will lead and support the retail team in creating a welcoming and knowledgeable environment, ensuring staff are well-trained and equipped to provide personalized assistance and expert guidance on all products and services.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the floor is running smoothly with full focus on the Member experience. Deal with any enquiries and complaints and monitor Member service. Serve Members as needed.
  • Ensure Retail Staff are working in accordance with Club standards and expectations, as well as assigning tasks to staff as needed. Address any deficiencies and advise the Retail Manager
  • Ensure retail areas are appropriately stocked to meet Member interests and needs
  • Maintain attractive, orderly appearance of the store with particular emphasis on merchandising
  • Receive products from vendor deliveries
  • Compare packing lists to purchase orders and ensure that the products in each delivery match the packing list
  • Manage the product list in Northstar ensuring that codes are prepared for new items and that codes are discontinued for products no longer sold
  • Tag product inventory for sale
  • Initiate and oversee controls in the outlets such that losses and shrinkage are minimized
  • Assist in Employee recruiting, training and development as well as creating the monthly staff schedule. Supervise the duties, performances and schedules of the retail Staff. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures including disciplinary actions if needed.
  • Assist the Retail Manager in the annual reviews of the staff
  • Work with the Retail Manager in forecasting and management of the budget for the retail operation
  • Ensures monthly inventory counts are conducted in a timely and responsible fashion and investigate and correct discrepancies in the count
  • Educates Retail sales Staff on Member service as well as product lines, ensuring exceptional Member service and up-to-date product knowledge
  • Ensure outlet is maintained to the highest standard of repair, maintenance and cleaning. Reports all deficiencies to the department responsible
  • Represent the Retail Manager in his/her absence

Required Qualifications

  • 3 Years of Retail Management Experience
  • 2+ years of retail sales experience within a specialty environment
  • Highly organized self-starter, with an ability to solve problems and remain flexible
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Aptitude for and experience in marketing, promotion, and merchandising for a high-end market and clientele.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and managerial skills with the ability to communicate with various departments and levels within the organization.
  • Highly Member service orientated.
  • Computer aptitude with an ability to use Word and basic Excel spreadsheets. Experience with POS software is a definite asset.
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Flexible to work variable shifts; evenings, weekends and holidays
