Summary SJS Canada (SJSC) is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our Board of Directors as the Volunteer Treasurer.
Description What you’ll be doing
SJS Canada (SJSC) is seeking an individual to join our Board of Directors as the Volunteer Treasurer. This person should be dedicated to our cause and bring previous Board experience. This position is critical for assuring the effective governance and strategic direction of SJSC. The Treasurer will oversee the finances of the organization, ensure that we are on track with our Strategic financial plans, and play a key role in maintaining the overall fiscal health of the charity. As the Treasurer, in addition to regular duties, you will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial sustainability. This is a great opportunity to gain experience while spreading awareness about this often fatal illness. This position allows you to connect with a network of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) survivors, community members, and businesses including pharmacies, clinics, and other related healthcare institutions.
Time Commitment : The length of the Board term is 2 years minimum with the option for renewal. Regular Board meetings are held every 4-6 weeks via Zoom or other virtual meeting site.

Roles And Responsibilities: Oversee the financial operations of SJSC, ensuring compliance with Canadian charity financial regulations.
Provides a clear strategic direction for SJSC while ensuring that the organization operates within its financial objectives
Ensures that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis
Ensures the effective governance and sound financial health of the organization
Assists with fundraising initiatives
Attends regular Board meetings
Prepares tax receipts for eligible donations
Preparing an annual budget for the charity, based on projections for expenses and revenues from historic data, and discussions with the administrator and various committees regarding events for the upcoming year.
Provides accurate financial reports to the Board regularly and at the AGM, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections.
Assist with the organization's Strategic and Operational Planning
Signing authority for specified organizational documents
Other duties as needed
Qualifications: Experience with non-profit financial management and/or fundraising
A CPA certification is recommended (but not required)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Previous experience on a non-profit Board recommended.
